Abilities
Icathian Surprise
Upon dying, Kog'Maw starts a chain reaction in his body which causes him to move faster and detonate after 4 seconds; dealing 100 + (25 x level) true damage to surrounding enemies.
This is a semi good passive as if you do get jumped you can try to take out the people who jumped you.Caustic Spittle
With the newest patch it gives 15/20/25/30% Attack Speed and a projectile that pierces through armor. This is essential to the build. Bio-Arcane Barrage
Koh'Maw's attacks gain range and deal a percent of the target's maximum health as magic damage.
This is the reason this build is so amazing. Stacked with Bloodrazor you take out 10% of their health in 1 hit ... with the faster attack speed it takes about 5 seconds to kill a enemy champion.Void Ooze
Kog'Maw launches a peculiar ooze which damages all enemies it passes through and leaves a trail which slows enemies who stand on it.
While this is a good skill the only reason you get it is to slow down your target which can get done by getting aFrozen Mallet.
Living Artillery
Kog'Maw fires a living artillery shell at a great distance dealing damage and revealing targets. Additionally, multiple Living Artilleries in a short period of time cause them to cost additional mana.
This is also a good skill however you won't really be using it besides harass or snipping someone as they flee. -
Reason for no AP
Everyone seems to think for Kog'Maw the only way to go is mass AP / Hybrid build because thats how his E/Q skill work. However because of some items / heroes that are in the game AP just won't cut it anymore, even more so with the revamped Caustic Spittle.
Example would be a Garren with 200+ armor/mag resist trying to attack you ... because all of your damage comes as a percentage (10% with Bloodrazor)+ your base attack damage, Garen only reduces a small part of the total damage (only about 30% could be reduced). With AP just 1 or 2 items make it so that it is impossible to kill said person before they kill you or unless you have help.
The other issues I also found with AP is that its WAY to mana intense towards late game. You could find yourself running dry in 10-15 seconds into a fight. With AD you can never really run out of mana unless you use still like Living Artillery / Void Ooze often, which I might add stops you from auto attacking huge chunks of life away. -
Masteries + Runes
You want to go for a standard 21/0/9 Build to Max your damage output. http://leaguecraft.com/masteries/3003040031330100000000000000003104000100000
Also for Runes you will want to go for
Red = Armor PenGreater Mark of Desolation
Yellow = Attack SpeedGreater Seal of Alacrity
Blue = Cooldown ReductionGreater Glyph of Focus
Red / Yellow for killing faster.
Blue for using your skills quicker -
Items
Item Builds can go several different ways but for this build its a fairly narrow path.
Start : You can either get aDoran's Blade or
Long Sword depending on if you want early game survivability or if you want to rush your Bloodrazor.
First Trip Back : Try and getBerserker's Greaves and
Madred's Razors on your first trip back. If you can't get both make sure to get the boot first.
Second Trip : Finish [item=Madred's Bloodrazor] then you can build in any order from here.
Last Whisper = Attack Speed / Armor Pen
Frozen Mallet = Great Survivability / Perm Slow
Infinity Edge = Damage / Crit / Better Crits
[item=Malady] = Attack Speed / Lifesteal / Bonus Damage per Hit
Phantom Dancer = Attack Speed / Crit / Move Speed
Yes this is a very expensive build but if you get kills early from your range / burst damage then after you get [item=Madred's Bloodrazor] you can become unstoppable mid / late game. -
Skilling Order
Many people will gripe about taking Ooze last how ever in the 50+ games I have played with this build I get a positive K/D ratio and with AP builds its to easy to make you worthless. -
Summoner Abilities
Clarity for you running out of mana for your ultimate.
Ghost for chasing / running away.
Other good options include...
Flash great for getting that last hit on fleeing baddies.
Revive While many people fine this useless, because Kog'Maw is so squishy late game its a great way to get back in there and snipe a few more kills before anyone notices.
