  • Introduction

    Gragas is in my own opinion and will probably be yours once he has mastered him as a champion. The one advice I like to give to those who are play him is not to be scared of anyone in a head to head fight with anyone while on an even playing field. What I mean even is based on your own judgment but for me I find that as long as I have enough life to survive 4 seconds fighting him I can take him on. The reason why I dub Gragas as one of the best is not just because I'm writing the guide to make myself popular, but instead is the get more people to play Gragas. This guide is written for the sole purpose of teaching players how to be the best Gragas you can be.

  • Abilities

    Happy Hour
    This passive is in my opinion better then most passive's out there. Even if it seems 2% is only a tiny bit of heal, it goes a long way in giving you lane staying ability. It is also a flat 2% even at level 1 and late game when you are around 3k life you will realize that 2% over 4 seconds translates to 15 health Regen/sec.

    Synergy: When used with any of your skills the regeneration will start stacking up. The best thing about this is that Drunken Rage triggers this to give you Health Regen and mana Regen. This means that you will be able to stay in lane and dominate it.


    Barrel Roll
    Barrel Roll (12/11/10/9/8 seconds)
    Gragas rolls his cask to a location, which can be activated again to explode or will explode on its own after 5 seconds, dealing 100/150/200/250/300 (+80% of ability power) magic damage in the area.


    This is your bread and butter or should i say beer and mead. Late game i have seen these barrels do up to 900 or more depending on what build you do with a 5 second cooldown. Later in the guide i will show the stats to back this up. The range on these barrels are retard-idly far resulting in a harass that far out reaches most skills. The only problem is aiming and that should not be an issue with a bit of practice and smooth foot work. The one bad i must tell you is that you can only blow the barrel when it gets to where you targeted it meaning if you miss your going miss. (redundant but true). I will go in-depth about barrel placements later.


    Drunken Rage
    Drunken Rage (30 seconds)
    Gragas guzzles down brew from his cask, channeling for 1 second. He gains 50/60/70/80/90 mana while channeling and becomes empowered after finishing, increasing physical attack damage by 30/40/50/60/70, and reducing damage taken by 10/14/18/22/26% for 20 seconds.


    Here is where all your skills gain synergy. This one skill is what will allow you to beat anyone lane easy. This is truly what makes Gragas a tough nut to break. I will outline the advantages of this skill and how the affect your other skills with the skill it works with. This skill basically makes Gragas a Tank and monster in the lane. A constant flow of mana and a damage reduction that helps you fend off against those pesky harassers. This will allow you to throw barrels like no tomorrow and keep throwing them for a week.


    Body Slam
    Body Slam (6 seconds)
    Gragas charges forward, colliding with the first enemy unit he hits and dealing 80/120/160/200/240 plus 66% of his physical damage to enemies in the area. Damage is split amongst targets hit. Units hit by Body Slam are slowed by 35% for 2.5 seconds.


    Body slam is a multi-purpose skill that has so many uses i probably forget to even mention some. Instead of talking about this i am going to make this a mini section.
    Synergy: What can i say. The +70 damage buff and the 26% damage reduction allows you to charge into battles and stay there all fine and dandy. And more heal while in battle!!!!.


    Explosive Cask
    Explosive Cask (60 seconds)
    Gragas throws his cask to an area. Upon landing, it deals 200/325/450 (+100% of ability power) magic damage to all units struck, knocking them back and applying a 20/30/40% attack speed debuff.


    Ahhh yes.... The +1.3k damage damage that throws and entire team in disarray. This section will also need an entire page dedicated to itself also. Sigh... more writing but more for you to read too.


  • Summoner Abilities

    Ghost + Exhaust
    There is no alternative to this build other then this. It will maximize your lethal capabilities by allowing you chase people into oblivion. When going in for the kill you want to get close and fast. With Ghost and Exhaust together you will get close and personal with your Body Slam and Barrels like that.

  • Masteries + Runes

    Going this build for your mastery tree will allow you to tank more and dish out a bit more damage with Ardor. The rest is pretty simple to understand such as the Offense decision for more AP/Penetration/Cd.

    Runes is totally up to individual preference but i prefer have the listed and found it works best.

    Greater Mark of Insight More penetration will help you kill those pesky tanks that think they can stack Magic resistance.
    Greater Seal of Vitality This will give you the life you need to become even more tank-ish as you will be on the receiving end of a lot damage.
    Greater Glyph of Celerity Cool down is a good thing. More barrels in their faces.
    Greater Quintessence of Insight MOOORREEEEE penetration rawr.

  • Build Example

    Main Build : Pro's Only
    This build is specifically for people who have gotten use to Gragas and can be confident in their ability to stay alive even with Gragas's amazing survivability. This is mainly because it is quite an expensive build total is 14350 Gold making it tough to pull off. You will require last hitting/early kills/assists to pull this off fast. Mejai's is also hard to keep up if you keep dieing.

    Starter Build : Beginner's with Gragas
    This build is a all around build that is more reliable and allows for more tanking by giving up a bit of AP. This will also make you hit like a tank once every 3 seconds. You will hit +700 damage with the Lich Bane's buff which is pretty crazy. Combined with your Body Slam, you will be doing +1000 damage every 2 seconds.

  • Items

    I will discuss the build order only for the pro build as it is very similar and the only difference is the Lich Bane which in most cases will be bought last.

    Starting Items
    Sapphire Crystal + Health Potion + Mana Potion
    At the beginning you will not be able to spam barrels as much because if the low level of Drunken Rage. With Sapphire Crystal, it will help you stay in lane long enough to farm enough for catalyst.

    Stage 1
    Catalyst the Protector + Boots of Speed
    This isn't a script where you have to go back exactly when you have enough gold, but instead should just be a gauge to measure at what stage you should be at. Catalyst will let you stay in lane for as long as YOU want. Boots is just what its made for. Movement speed etc...

    Stage 2
    Sorcerer's Shoes + Rod of Ages
    Self Explanatory. I think that getting Mejai's 1st is just pure stupidity because you just don't have enough AP or health to stay alive or get a ton of stacks. With Rod 1st, you will be able to net enough kills after you get your Mejai's and have enough life to survive.

    Stage 3
    Mejai's Soulstealer + Void Staff
    Yea..... I'm going to stop making long explanation for items. Mejai's just cause at this point you do enough to easily kill most soft champions and take out bigger targets with some chasing. Void staff for increased AP + penetration.

    Stage 4

    [I]At this point you have enough AP to make this worth it.


    Final Stage
    [item=Rylai's Scepter] or Lich Bane
    [I]All on how your game is going. If you find you are dieing a lot or need some extra slow to catch fast guys i would take Scepter, but if you find you are getting hammered by spells and need some more damage for your spells go for Lich Bane. I almost guaranteed you will almost never reach this point as it will be over a lot earlier.

  • Skilling Order

    The reason i choose this course of skill leveling is because of the importance of your Barrel and Drunken Rage. They will be the reason you will own late game. The Body Slam is a very important skill, but does not require high level to work effectively. By leveling it, all you do is increase the speed/range(i think) and damage(Base only). Even at level 1, it will do its job perfectly.

  • Body Slam

    Effective Uses of Body Slam
    1. Slow
    The slow is a constant 35% that last 2.5 seconds. I don't know what the makers of this skill were thinking at the time but that is crazy when you consider the distance and cooldown time this skill has. At the end of the day you will be able to constantly keep anyone from getting away through normal means.
    2. Nuke
    Although this is technically an AP build, i don't see the end result a AP hero. This is based off damage his physical attack meaning it shouldn't do that much since you are AP and not AD. WRONG.!! This does a hefty 360 damage at a low level. That's right not at level 18 but at a low level. It is easily passed up when considering an AP Gragas but don't neglect this possible powerhouse of an ability. Do not forget that is is AOE and will do less damage if hitting 2+ targets.
    3. Chase
    The chasing ability of this skill just makes me laugh at people who try and run. There are a few champions that can get away from a good Gragas. This skill is fast, far reaching and precise and once again AOE meaning even if your not directly spot on with your Body Slam, i will have a wide berth to hit the target.
    4. Escape
    This skill combined with your passive heal and Drunken Rage will allow your to escape even the most persistent people. I have personally charged into a 5 man gank to save a teammate and made it out with 1 kill, a saved teammate and a enemy team at lower then 60% life. That is the main function of Gragas which i will press on later in the guide.
    5. Walls? What Walls?
    Yes you heard it here you can jump over almost ANY wall or area or unworkable obstacles. I am almost certain that you can also go over things such as Karthus's slow, Veiger's Stun, Etc. I will confirm this later. This means that you can Pop in and out of battles at will. I will include techniques where you will set up kills or even a turn around with this.
    6. Surprise.
    I cannot even count the number of this this technique has netted me kills or saved a teammate. This will act as a flash almost be better in some cases. When dashing forward you can actually still throw barrels. I won't get very in to it here but i will say that by dashing then throwing a barrel it will extend the range and lower their response time they have to get out of they way. This effectively increase your barrel hits or placements of ultimate.
    7. Travel
    This is just as it seems like.Traveling between lanes to gank is totally a pain in the ass. So using Body Slam to go past walls and over cliffs will save you a lot of time.
