Hello everyone!
This is my second heroguide here on Leaguecraft and as natural, I want to apologize for my English since I'm not a native speaker and I may make some mistakes.
Today I want to show my jungle Poppy to you as well as other viable options.
For me, there are two main reasons for this guide: On the one hand there are thousands of noob Poppys outside the LoL planet and on the other hand I'm the only jungle Poppy I've ever seen.
Maybe it seems pretty strange to jungle Poppy but I will show you how to do it and after my guide you will hopefully see Poppys real potential.
So far, enjoy my guide on Poppy - the Iron Ambassador
Yes, I am serious when I jungle with Poppy. Nevertheless, I also thought of its effectiveness when I imagined to jungle her.
I always played Poppy down at the bot lane with one of my friends. Most of the time he used to play a champion with some nice disables to get myself in position for a good
It worked rather well but somehow Poppy is pretty weak during the early game. Doing lasthits is a bit difficult because of the meta which means that your ranged AD carry has to get all the lasthits (otherwise you get flamed) and also her melee attack range makes it a bit tricky to get in range without getting harassed. Aditionally Poppy doesn't have too much life and neither good resistances to stay in lane for long.
That was the reason why I looked carefully at her abilities and started to jungle her.
Your first question will probably be now: "Jungle Poppy? Does that really work?"
And yes, it really does work! It works pretty well at all and especially your ganks will drive your enemies mad if you come out of the brush with
I'm sure that you won't start jungling Poppy immediately after you read these first line so that I just want to give you a small impression of what Poppy can be about before we go on:
Now, let me give you a brief overview about the Pros and Cons of jungle Poppy:
Pros:
• great damage output due to [spell_icon=Devastating Blow]
• wonderful ganking tool - single target wall-stun
• fast jungle speed
• awesome "I won't die"-ultimate
• insane movement speed with +
+
• can deal great amounts of damage even without items
Cons:
• pretty low mana pool
• is rather difficult to use perfectly
• weak without her ultimate
• ganking needs more practice than with other champions such as Udyr
Before we go on I'd say that we take a close look at Poppy's abilities:
[spell=Valiant Fighter]
Any damage dealt to Poppy that exceeds 10% of her current health is reduced by 50%. This does not reduce damage from structures.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This passive is just awesome! You won't really realize it but if you just think about it carefully you will notice that Poppy could not survive without it.
[spell=Devastating Blow]
Poppy crushes her opponent, dealing
attack damage plus a flat amount and 8% of her target's max health as
bonus damage. The bonus damage cannot exceed a threshold based on rank.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is your bread and butter spell. It deals great amounts of damage especially to champions without many resistances and you will just love it. And remeber that it deals bonus damage depending on the target's MAX health.
You will mainly use it to attack champions but also to farm minions easier. Keep in mind that it refreshes your original attack cooldown which means that your likely to use it immediately after a basic attack.
Damage: attack damage +20/40/60/80/100 (+0.6) magical damage +8% of the target's max health
Max bonus damage: 75/150/225/300/375
Mana: 55
CD (no CDR): 8/7/6/5/4.5s
Paragon of Demacia
Passive: Upon being hit or attacking
an enemy, Poppy's armor and damage are increased for 5 seconds. This
effect can stack 10 times.
Active: Poppy gains max stacks of Paragon of
Demacia and her movement speed is increased for 5 seconds.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This ability is also a wonderful addition to Poppy. On the one hand it allows you to jungle with and on the other I just love this spell because of the movement speed. The damage and amor bonus is pretty nice, too.
Damage/amor boost: 1.5/2/2.5/3/3.5 per stack
Movementspeed: 17/19/21/23/25% for 5s
Mana: 70/75/80/85/90
CD (no CDR): 12s
Heroic Charge
Poppy charges at an enemy and carries
them further. The initial impact deals a small amount of damage, and if
they collide with terrain, her target will take a high amount of damage
and be stunned for 1.5s.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This spell is awesome - no doubt about it. It's just amazing to pull your opponent right inside the wall to knock him off with your [spell_icon=Devastating Blow]
You will most likely try to pull your enemy inside a wall, a tree, a turret or anything else but you can also use this spell to pull an enemy back to your team or to close a gap towards your enemy.
Keep in mind that will deal significant bonus damage if you hit a wall/tree/turret etc.
Damage: 50/75/100/125/150 (+0.4) magical damage
Additional damage: 75/125/175/225/275 (+0.4) magical damage
Mana: 60/65/70/75/80
CD (no CDR): 12/11/10/9/8s
[spell=Diplomatic Immunity]
Poppy focuses intently on a single
enemy champion, dealing increased damage to them. Poppy is immune to any
damage and abilities from enemies other than her target.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In my opinions this is one of the best ultimates in League of Legends. Nothing can effect you except of the marked target (well, and the fountain) ANDyou deal bonus damage to it.
GoGo towerdive? GoGo pentakill? Evade Karthus' ultimate? Escape by marking Soraka?
Do whatever you want but keep in mind that you will become vulnerable again ;)
Bonus damage: 20/30/40%
Mana: 100
CD (no CDR): 140/120/100
First of all I need to tell you that there are two possible ways of jungling Poppy which I figured out.
Therefore you can either take or
+ 5x
Both skillbuilds are pretty much the same but I still want to show you both.
If you take first you will most likely skill like this:
Here you need to take one point in at level one to manage you jungle and especially the Blue Golem at level one. After that you max out
right away because you need the decreased cooldown and the damage of it is also pretty insane even without AP.
Why not maxing out [spell_icon=Devastating Blow] first? Well its pretty simple: It's much more effective to max out first because its damage increases dramatically while the damage of [spell_icon=Devastating Blow] does not change as significantly. It's cooldown is pretty low anyways and the limit of it's bonus damage is high enough due to the time of game in which everyone has around 1000-1800 HP.
In case that you prefer to jungle with and 5x
you will skill like this:
In this path you take your [spell_icon=Devastating Blow] on level one to do your jungle and after that you skill equally to the skillbuild above.
And here is a third option if you still don't want to jungle Poppy:
This build should also be rather clear. You max out as fast as possible, and immediately afterwards [spell_icon=Devastating Blow]
At level four you skill
NOTE that you can also skill your instead of [spell_icon=Devastating Blow] in case that you prefer the extra movementspeed and the attack damage and amor.
In this part of my guide I have to say that I can only share my way with you.
In my opinion summoner spells shall support ones gameplay and everyone is different which means that he might take other summoner spells. In this case I just want to present my current summoner spells to you and will say something about the others, too.
Good Spell: Flash
This spell is just amazing on Poppy in my opinion. It's a wonderful tool to get yourself in position for or to escape from dangerous situations. I would say that it's higly recommended!
Smite
I think there's not much to say about it. You really need to take it when jungling. No doubt about it. Ghost
This spell is a good choise in case you don't like
Moreover I used it when playing sidelane. Exhaust
Another possible toll to get yourself in position or to escape. Also pretty useful to reduce your opponen's damage for a few seconds.
Accaptable spells: Ignite
Well, I just don't like this spell on Poppy since there are many better ones in my opinion and most of the time your AP nuker will get that. Teleport
Playing a pushing Poppy - Why not? I'm personally not a fan of it but if you really like it you can certainly take it. Cleanse
A viable option on Poppy if you are afraid of too much CC but why do you want to lower CC if you are not effected thanks to [spell_icon=Diplomatic Immunity] ;) Clairvoyance
Map awareness is fine and you can theoratically take it with Poppy but i think that a supporter should usually get this. Heal
Our so-called "noobspell" - I like it! Maybe not on Poppy but if you want to surprise your enemies take it and enjoy ;)
Bad spells:[/line] Revive
No! Seriously no. I'm not kidding. Clarity
Another no go! You should learn how to deal with your mana and during jungling you will have blue anyway!
I tested many ways of how to organize my masteries and this is the best way in my opinion. You get a lot of damage thanks to the offensive tree and also some survivability for your jungle. Unfortunataly, you cant't take the utility tree but it still works pretty well.
In case you have chosen different summoner spells you neaturally have to adapt your masteries.
NOTE that you can also put more points in the defensive tree but in this case you will probably jungle with
When talking about runes I have to say the same what I said about summoner spells: You have to choose on your own which runes you want to take.
There are so many different ways of how to build your runes so that I can just show you which runes I use currently:
5x Greater Mark of Desolation
4x [rune=Greater Mark of Strenght]
9x [rune=Greater Seal of Strenght]
9x [rune=Greater Gkyph of Strenght]
3x [rune=Greater Quintessence of Strenght]
These runes are pretty awesome. You will deal tonns of damage thanks to your additional AD which means that you regain much more life thanks to
Naturally you can also build up your runes differently with some more survivability like amor, megic resistance or HP.
I thought a pretty long time about my itembuild and now I figured out a pretty well-working one.
First of all I want to show my itembuild to you and after that I want to talk about situational items aswell.
[uline]My current itembuild is the following: Wriggle's Lantern - A great item for every jungler including a free ward. All in all completely recommended.
Trinity Force - The most expensive item ingame but one of the best choises for Poppy. Precc, slow, moventspeed - great!
Youmuu's Ghostblade - Amor penetration, CDR, AD, crit. Everything you need! Especially the speedbuff makes Poppy become a monster.
Infinity Edge - Normally you won't reach this item but if you get it you will bekome awesome.
Mercury's Treads - In my opinion a pretty nice choise. Lowered CC is always usefull.
As you can see there is one space left which you can fill with an item of choise. I personally prefer something like or any more damage items in case that you won't die any more and don't need any defensive stuff.
Explanation:
First of all you try to build your to improve your jungle speed. Furthermore you can make greate use of the free ward and the passive will help you to farm creeps much easier. Additionally you can now give the Blue Buff to an aliie because you don't nee your spells anymore to jungle.
After that you take and
to boost your damage intently. Most of the time your game will end at this point but if you play further you will now take
and
Other possible choises: Stark's Fervor - An option to get more lifesteal and amor penetration. The attack speed is not that useful.
The Bloodthirster - Definetely a nice item and I would replace [item_icon=Wriggles' Lantern] with it.
Phantom Dancer - A viable choise for Poppy even if tink that you don't really need That much attack speed.
Warmog's Armor +
Atma\'s Impaler - Possible but I'm not a fan of it.
Last Whisper - Also a nice choise to finish off your opponen's amor.
Guardian Angel - I think this is a very nice last item on Poppy to improve your overall survivability.
Ninja Tabi - A good choise if you play against heavy physical damage.
Boots of Mobility - You want to become an insane MS monster? Get this! :)
Boots of Swiftness - Another option to male it easier to land a good
NOTE that you can also take defensive items such as or
which I don't list in this guide because Poppy is not a tank! You might take them in case that you're dying too often but usually you should focus on your damage and if you can hit your opponent with
you won't have much trouble.
In the following I want to show you a step by step order how to build up Popy. Remeber that tihs is just a theory and can be changed due to different situations.
Summoner's Platform:
Here you have to decide how you want to jungle. I usually grab a and take my first point in
Otherwise you can also take and 5x
In case you dont jungle at all you will take and 2x
First Return:
Thanks to your ganks you will hopefully get your first kills and assist to upgrade your /
into
Moreover you will buy your and try to start your
In case you play the laning Poppy you just leave out and finish your
righ away. Naturally you can also build
if you want to.
Take some if needed.
Second Return:
Now you will have entered the early mid game and should finish your and your
will be your next item which you should try to get as soon as possible. Therefore you should start with
During Midgame:
By now you will enter the mid/early late game. Finish your and start you [item_icons=Youmuu's Ghostblade] by starting with
Lategame:
You won't reach this phase in every game but now you should build your and your last item of choise. After that you should really rape everything that does not want to walk out of your way ;)
By now I have only talked about general stuff for your overall build but in this section of my guide I want to show you precicely how to jungle with Poppy.
First of all you have to decide wether you wanna take or
+ 5x
I personally prefer to jungle with because you will be able to gank easier at level two thanks to
which you won't take when jungling with
But why do you actually take [spell_icon=Devastating Blow] instead of when jungling with
?
I tested it and jungling with [spell_icon=Devastating Blow] is a little bit faster and deals more damage. The only problem is that lifesteal does not benefit from its magical damage which means that becomes pretty useless. Otherwise
works pretty well in combination with the additional damage from your runes, masteries and
So you need to decide on your own which way you prefer.
Anyway, no metter which skillbuild you take you will start with the Blue Buff. Ask for a pull and activate to get your full amount of stacks in case you went for
If you bought and 5x
you will use one
and activate [spell_icon=Devastating Blow] whenever available.
With level two you take your first point in to kill your minions even easier and to be able to gank.
Go on by killing the Wolves and after that the Wraiths. Besides use your and your
and take one
after every minion camp.
Finally kill the Lizard Buff and start your gank if you haven't ganked already.
NOTE that you use at the beginning while fighting against the big "Buff-Golems" since you will deal more damage if your target is under 40% life due to your offensive masterie.
As I already said above you should let your AP carry take the Blue buff after getting your due to the fact that you won't need your abilities anymore to clear your jungle.
In this last part of my guide I'd like to talk about general gameplay things when playing Poppy.
1. Lane or Jungle?
Well - This question is pretty clear to me: Jungle! Poppy is just a beast while ganking and her is extremely nice in combination with
She can be played very well in lane but for me she is more useful while surprising the enemies by comming randomly out of the jungle.
2. When do I use ultimate?
Your ultimate has many different uses. Especially during the laning phase you can use it to towerdive an enemy or to make sure won't die due to two enemies at the bottom lane.
Moreover you can use it to deal more damage to you target.
Furthermore you will use your ultimate to mark undangerous targets (supporter and tanks mostly) while you kill the carries which is extremely funny during teamfights.
Another use can be seen as an escape merchanism where you mark on target while chased by three or four enemies.
NOTE that you ultimate immediately ends when your marked target dies so that you are mostly going to mark a different champion than your actual target while moving through many people.
3. How to gank?
This won't be that complicated at all if you have a well organized team.
Just ping your target and wait for your team to react. Pop and try to knock your target into a wall. It will be even easier if you teammate can stun, slow or disable your target in any way. Red buff will than do the rest to your slow.
4. How to behave in teamfights?
If your ultimate is up you will often initiate a teamfight by marking a target and setting a focus. In case your tank initiates you can also simply mark someone who really does not pay attention to you while killing the enemy carries.
If your ultimate is still in cooldown you should try to come from behind. Don't be their focus if possible since you can take this without ultimate.
I haven't talked about this by now and I neither want to talk about it very carefully. In my opinion AP is possible and I really think that she can deal great amounts of damage. It seems to me pretty much like AP and AD Sion.
AP is pretty funny during early game and can loose its strenght during lategame while AD will dominate the lategame.
Another reson why I prefer AD Poppy is that her bonus damage from your ultimate has great effects on her basic attacks while you won't be able to use your twice during one ultimate which means that AP Poppy doesn't benefit from it too much.
Well, you alread reached the end of this guide and I really hope that you enjoyed it and that I could show you the basics of my jungle Poppy.
If you have any ideas or other things you want to tell me just write a comment below! :)
