Hello, I'm TheConquerorr. I wanted to make this guide because i want to show Udyr's maximum potential. Unfortunately most of other guides states that either Tiger or Phoenix is useless when its not. Of course they have some pros over each other but overally, they both are very efficient (explained later).
Udyr can take many roles even after game has started depending on enemy and ally team composition. I want to show how Udyr can fit nearly every team with its flexibilty, versatility etc etc... Therefore there is no core build and my recommended builds are not holy words so you can change them to suit better for your playstyle.
This guide is for those players who already played Udyr at least (well umm...) 10 times and has basic knowledge about core elements like Jungling-Laning, Map Awareness etc. so i'll pass beginner tips...
I'm playing Udyr since 07/26/2010 (source: PVP.net Purchase History) and played more than 400 games with just Udyr. In this time i tried every possible build-playstyle with Udyr to achieve its maximum potential. I hope you enjoy reading this guide! Your suggestions and constructive comments are very welcome. Thanks!
Actually it is Udyr who killed Urf the Manatee. Later Warwick has stolen his skin for himself =P
Persistent Effect: Increases attack speed by (20/25/30/35/40)%.
Activation: Udyr's attack speed is increased by (15/20/25/30/35)% and Udyr's first attack rends his target, dealing an extra (30/80/130/180/230) (+1.5 per attack damage point) magic damage over 2 seconds.
Tiger = AD Udyr
Your single target ripper ability. On activation you get %75 AS plus (on first hit) dot(damage over time) effect which bleeds enemy for 2 secs. This will kill enemies after they waste their flash to escape... HAHA! As you see its a good finishing strike.
Persistent effect only good for farming, tower-inhibator damaging. In combat, once delivered first hit of Tiger change stance.
When assaulting, switch to tiger than bear and attack. This will both stun and apply tiger's first hit effect. But remember you have 3 seconds (approx.) to accomplish this or tiger stance at background will fade...
Persistent Effect: Udyr's attacks cannot crit, but he restores (10/12/14/16/18)% of his damage as health and (5/6/7/8/9)% of his damage as mana.
Activation: Udyr gains a temporary shield that absorbs (60/100/140/180/220) (+0.5 per ability power point) damage.
Very useful spammable sheild with just 3.6 secs cd (with %40 cdr). Turtle is our best friend at early level jungling or laning. Mana and HP regen will let you stay in your lane more than everyone. And enemy harrassers will only waste their mana (or effort) as you use sheild against their attacks and continue regenerating. At late game we will use this between every 2 stance to reduce incoming damage and stay in fight longer.
The temporary sheild benefits from armor and magic resistance, this means if we have 100 armor our sheild will block 440 physical damage(at lvl5) at least (of course if enemy doesn't have armor penetration). Some people say "AP is not suitable because its AP ratio is only 0.5"
They are right actually pure AP for Udyr is a bad joke. But AP&AS hybrid with %40 CdR and reasonable resistance, it can be very fun to play. I'll talk about this later.
You may also use turtle before any attack to get you sheild up and get stacks earlier.
When you have low hp, hitting minions while spamming turtle is a very good way to regain full hp but you need %18 CdR at least for this. Spamming turtle is also very helpful when you are focused in teamfights but remember you need to max CdR and have good amounts of resistance for higher damage absorbtion and longer durability.
Spell Summary
Persistent Effect: Udyr mauls his target with such force that they are stunned for 1 second. This effect cannot occur on the same target for 6 seconds.
Activation: Udyr gains (15/18/21/24/27)% increased movement speed for (2/2.5/3/3.5/4) seconds.
Your assault or flee stance. Shortly; Stun, Chase, Flee, Fast Travel
A well placed stun can change the outcome of a game. Yes, you can interrupt ------------------(prevent teleport)---------(if already bear)---(channeling)---(channeling)---(channeling)
Note that stun cd is for "same" target. This means you can slap around at team fights and interrupt them like crazy...
While running away don't just use bear, shift between bear and turtle to get your shield up. Stunning before escape can sometimes help you to safely retreat.
You are very fast when bear is active but that doesn't means you should chase enemy to the end of the world... If they manage to get too far just turn back, 0 is better than -1.
Some players dont give 5 points to this ability because they can already reach 500 MS (soft cap)... I personally dont agree this because some champions can still race and own Udyr AND whats the purpose of Bear if you cant catch enemies when you need to ? What if enemy has 10 MS more than you..? More MS is never a waste.
When you need to reach somewhere asap (or if you have blue buff) spam bear. But you need %35 CdR for continuous effect.
Persistent Effect: Every third attack, Udyr engulfs enemies in front of him in flame, dealing (40/80/120/160/200) (+0.25 per ability power point) magic damage.
Activation: Udyr sends out pulsing waves of fire dealing (15/25/35/45/55) (+0.25 per ability power point) magic damage each second to nearby enemies for 5 seconds. In addition, Udyr's ability power is increased by (15/25/35/45/55) and his attack damage is increased by half of that amount.
Phoenix = Magic Damage&AS Udyr
Your other offensive ability but this one gains more power from AS then AD. Thats why if we decide to go Phoenix Udyr we'll buy lot of AS items. I said Magic Damage&AS Udyr above because your damage output includes more magic damage than... Many players underestimate magic damage part because they didn't really understand . I will explain this later.
When jungling, dont forget to count 3. hit before you change stance.
A. Jungledyr
Foreword
Lets get to the most exciting part. Before we start i want to ask myself: Why should i jungle ?
Answer: By jungling, i leave more XP and Gold for my team while not sacrificing from mine. I gank enemies and interrupt their laning. My team dominates map because i'm patrolling around. And hey! i'm UDYR! The Jungle King!
Jungler Phoenix
=============================================================================== A.Pros/Cons of Jungler Phoenix
===============================================================================
Pros:
1. Faster and easier jungling and farming than Tiger. 2. Incredibly efficient-cheap build which allows you to finish it before than everyone else. 3. Damage output is second to none at early and mid stage. 4. Continuous damage mixed with burst damage makes him a "Crazed Hellhound" (Thanks to AS-Magic Damage items) 5. AoE effect damages like Sunfire Capex2. And if you have Sunfire Cape instead of Randuin's Omen your AoE will be somethings to really worry about for enemy team. But still, Randuin's Omen is better. 6. Serious magic damage output 7. Can act like an off-tank. 8. Less dependant on CdR
Cons:
Cons? HaH! Udyr has no cons!!
Just kiddin' =D
Every champion and every build has cons.
1. Needs teammates who can co-op early stage seriously. 2. Fragile early on. In case you fail at early stage (jungling-ganking) you wont be able to get defensive items soon enough and your mid game wont be very shiny... 3. Very dependant on Blue Buff early on and Red Buff throughout whole game. 4. Serious magic damage output 5. Slightly lower late stage damage output than Jungler Tiger. 6. Needs to be engaged for at least 3-4 secs to really damage someone...
Greater Glyph of Shieldingx9
Udyr has weakness versus magic damage so 9 of those will significantly help you at mid-late stage. Additionally, we wont need much Mres at early jungling stage.
If you say "i can take care of Mres problem with something else" go equip Greater Glyph of Focus.
Runes Summary: +%15 AS, +17 Armor, +24 Mres, +%4.5 MS
=============================================================================== C.Masteries
=============================================================================== 1. This one is offensive: Provides AS and AD bonus and enhances Ignite,Surge & Ghost...
2. This one is safer: Favors Smite & Flash and reduces incoming damage.
Masteries Summary: Monster Buffs are very important for jungler so that we must spend 9 points in utility tree anyway. Actually, the rest is up to you... Offensive tree provides good bonuses (AS+AD) until 10. point and Defensive one is all good tree with nice bonuses.
I prefer the 2. one because it gives +%3 MS, +%10 Tenacity (which can be %45 in total with Mercury's Treads) and the advantage versus minions & monsters...
Example of Jungler Phoenix Build against a balanced enemy team (with masteries and runes):
[builder=Udyr/6f9d72371e47ecf4ce562f34bbfcce19]
This build has many advantages (discussion below) but more than other advantages, you can finish this build when others are still farming to buy their 5. item.
Item Discussion:
We have many starting item choices here... Cloth Armor+ Health Potionx5 is safest one but if you are using Smite you don't actually need this starting item combination... Jungler Phoenix can jungle good enough without smite... Smite makes it easier and safer but you can take Ignite or maybe Surge for better ganking results... This part is open to customization because Udyr is the most versatile! (We will talk about Summoner Spells later). You can also start with Boots of Speed+ Health Potionx3 if you have smite. After they removed "dodge" from the game i started to use Dagger+
Health Potionx1 which allows me to get Malady or SotD earlier...
Although Ninja Tabi is still good against "right-clickers" and its cheap which means that you will be able to do better early ganks, but actually Mercury's Treads is now the best.
After Boots you are free to buy either Dagger x2 or Recurve Bow x1. - If you buy Dagger x2 first, your next item is Malady. Malady is 1. cheap -> gives you significant early advantage 2. synergizes well with your Phoenix throughout whole game. - If you buy Recurve Bow first, you should get [item=ionic spark]. It is another very efficient item. It is almost an upgrade for your Phoenix. With an almost 2.5 AS, its passive is a big bonus to your damage output throughout whole game...
Now you have Mercury's Treads , Malady and [item=ionic spark] which means you have completed most of your offensive items for only 5365 gold! In a decent game you should be able to burn anyone into his ashes at this stage. Many times i killed 2 full hp enemies at 1v2 fight at this stage. Its not a dream, with correct playstyle, correct setup and mastered "Stance Dance" your Udyr can BURN more than you can imagine.
After this stage we need to get some defensive items because laning stage is probably/nearly over and team fights will occur. If we dont have enough resistance we wont be able to burn much. We must be able to stay in fight in order to benefit from our offensive items.
Check enemy team, if they have more AP champions then AD you must get more Mres and if they have more AD you should buy more Armor.
Armor-HP Items:
An ideal Anti-AD defensive item for Udyr must give both Armor and HP because they synergizes with each other. If you have 3000 HP and 150 Armor, this means you actually have 7500 HP (Math: 3000+3000x150/100=7500) when fighting with AD Master Yi(Yi hits with only auto attacks and doesnt have any armor penetration/reduction)...
According to this determination, these items are best:
Randuin's Omen This item is just great! Its active is your best friend in team fights. Sunfire Cape This one doesnt have any slowing effect. But its cheaper than Randuin's Omen and 35 magic damage per second is another upgrade to your Phoenix.
An exception: If enemy team has incredible amounts of physical damage, you can get Thornmail after any of or to survive late game team fights.
Other Anti-AD items are not recommended.
Mres-HP Items:
The determination above is same here. I'll say only one item here an its Banshee's Veil. It doesnt need much explanation, it gives both HP and Mres which synergizes with each other. This means this item protects you from AP enemies MORE than [item=Force of Nature]. And Banshee's Veil has The Bubble which is very helpful (You can just laugh at as it wont deliver even 1 damage AHAHA!).
Now we have some good amounts of Resistance and HP to stay in team fights but as you come to this stage you will notice that you will need more damage output. Your next item is: Wit's End. Yes, it gives you +%40 AS +50 Mres and extra 42 bonus magic damage every single hit! Its another upgrade to your Phoenix but this one also gives Mres !
Other Items :
[item=madred's bloodrazor]. Why we dont get this first ? Because its 3800 gold! Instead of Madreds ,get SotD and Malady for amazing early damage output. But if enemy has too much hp, this is your late game item.
Trinity Force. This item is great for Udyr but its very expensive and Sheen effect increases with AD and this build is not AD build, this is AS + Magic Damage build... Therefore Trinity Force is not recommended.
Nashor's Tooth. AS and CdR effect is very nice and AP enhances your Turtle Sheild by 30 and Phoenix by 15 but its a bit expensive... Feel free to try it one day...
Total Stats Summary (approx.): 3000 HP, 185 Armor, 190 Mres, 2.5 AS and %5 CdR for only 13265 gold !
Note: If you are going to build like this, you must inform your teammates about your damage output (%60-%80 magic damage) at champion selection.
Important Note: This build deals (approx.) 4600 mixed damage to single target and 1400 magical AoE damage in 5 secs. Also, absorbs 8000 damage before dying. (Enemy's Resistances, Penetrations and your Turtle Sheilds and possible Critical Hits are not calculated)
I'll start discussing about Smite. Some (actually, all of) guide writers says its a need when its not really needed. Well, Smite has its own advantages of course but its NOT a need. Its maybe a need for junglers like Amumu, Rammus, Shen etc but not for Udyr.
With jungling is easier, safer and a little quicker and stealing Dragon and Baron and others is much easier (deals 870 true damage to minions at level 18) but what is the purpose of jungling at early and mid stage if a jungler fails at ganking ? When he can jungle pretty effectively without smite (with correct setup) ? As you know, Udyr doesn't have any ranged attack. Numberless times i killed a flashed enemy with . Its clear that smite is not very useful after early jungling so why not to get ? If you've played Udyr for at least 10 times you know that Udyr's biggest enemy is CC (crowd control). It totally ruins you in teamfights... But again is always a viable choice for junglers... is another viable choice... And works amazingly at early and mid stage of game.
Shortly:
1. Ghost very strongly recommended. Movement Speed is one of the core elements for every Udyr.
2.As i said above you can choose 2. summoner spell from one of these: Smite, Ignite, Cleanse, Flash, Exhaust, Surge
There are many jungling routes.. Some players starts at Wolves, some players starts at Blue, some starts at small golems and some others try risky things... I personally prefer to start with Blue because jungling is faster if you have amazing mana regen.
Wolves-> Wraiths-> Small Golems OR opposite route jungling allows you to use Blue more efficiently for ganks. If you start from Blue your jungling will be faster but you'll have your Blue for a little time for ganks.
Here is traditional jungle route:
Blue -> Wolves -> Wraiths -> Golems -> Red -> Wraiths. During this stage try to maintain your HP as high as possible. Because enemy can kill you early and ruin your game... And when fighting with Blue and Red try to pull them to nearest bush. This way will make it harder for enemy to steal it. Also watch for enemy as it can mean that enemy jungler is attempting to steal your Buff. If your team has you can request it to prevent any thievery.
Consume first 4 skill points like below and after level 4 give few more points to and for best gank results and then give points to to reduce incoming damage at teamfights. Remember that armor and mres enhances turtles sheild. has last priority.
Recall after you got Red, buy boots (level 1 or 2 ,it doesn't matter) and make gank attempt to an optimal lane or to enemy jungler(later explained) or return to jungle.
Here is some tips&tricks about ganking and early game:
1. Never make haste to assault. Wait for right moment to attack. If enemy laners are pushing hard this doesnt means you can attack immediately. Wait for them (or tell ally laner to force them) to use their anti-gank abilities. Almost every champion has an anti-gank ability, i will talk about some tricky ones:
Petrifying Gaze:Be very careful about this. She can stun you both at mid and kill one of you in just few seconds. Attack her from opposite directions and finish her before she stuns you all.
Explosive Cask: He can bait you until he reaches his tower then throw his cask to your back which can cause a double fail, (1.Failed Gank 2. Death xD) attack him after he uses his ulty or kill him before he can reach to his tower. Janna, Rammus, Shen, Singed, Skarner, Urgot, Tristana and Jarvan IV can apply same tactic against you, dont be fool.
UPGRADE!!!:This is very annoying and sometimes deadly, attack him when he is far away from his
turrets and dont chase him to his turrets.
Yordle Snap Trap & 90 Caliber Net: When planning to gank Caitlyn make sure there are no Traps in your route or dont use bush before gank (Do same against and ). And to overcome his Net move in a curve to lower her accuracy. Ionian Fervor + Equilibrium Strike: Irelia is one of the hardest to gank. Her passive and stun seriously helps her. Tell your ally laners to use their available CC effects one after another on her.
2. Before attack, make sure your allies have enough mana/energy and their abilities are not on cooldown.
3. Always let your allies know of your ganking plans. Ping on map or tell them if you can communicate via Skype,Teamspeak,Ventrillo etc...
4. Before gank, if you dont have mana shortage stack your passive to reach 3. hit of Phoenix earlier.
5. In case you've picked save it for last moments, if your gank fails, at least you have your ignite ready for use.
6. When you are going to gank a lane, if you know there is a in the bush, stay outside of its range and wait for right moment and when the time comes use + to achieve maximum speed and strike like a thunder !
7. Always check enemy summoner spells before you start a gank. As Jungler Udyr, we dont like our victims to have Cleanse, Flash, Exhaust, Ghost.
8. If you can collect some extra gold, getting an Oracle's Elixir early will allow you to detect enemy wards. Reducing enemies map awareness is very important and as a jungler you travel across the map more than everyone. If you dont have much gold for an oracle, getting some Sight Wards will also help very much.
9. For ganking, solo lanes always have higher priority than duo lanes. Because it will be easier to destroy his/her tower after successful a gank. Also, those enemies which are farming very well are your top priority. Interrupt them before they get out of hand...
10. You can get initiative about killing Lizard/Golem if you know its respawn timer: Spawns first at 1.55 and respawns 5 minutes after killed.
11. Champions like Shaco, Nocturne are very dangerous anti-junglers. Placing wards, maintaining your HP as high as possible, using different jungle route or just CV can help greatly.
After laning phase is over (Mid game) and teamfights started to occur your missions are:
1. Wait for tank to initiate. Sometimes its best to wait 1-2 secs after initiation then join the fight. If you attack first you may not survive much even if you have your defensive items.
2. Use your speed to flank or even rear enemy team to reach their vulnerable casters & ranged carries. But try to complete your positioning before initiation or it can be too late... Attacking from odd directions is a great idea. With this way they wont be able to focus or counter you very well and it will cause panic. Dont forget to fulfill what i said in 1.
If your team catches them unprepared or you have a clear advantage over them, just charge in and burn them until they becomes ash.
3. Udyr is one of the best chasers in game but that doesnt means you will "target locked" one of them and chase him to hell. Stay with your team because they will need your stuns.
4. Red Buff will increase your damage output significantly and pin down your target as you continuously burning him.
5. You can get initiative about killing Dragon if you know its respawn timer: Spawns first at 2.30 and respawns 6 minutes after killed. By killing Dragon few times, your team will be superior about both wealth and level.
Few things about late game:
1. Some players think Tiger is much much more stronger than Phoenix at late game. If your build is (12600gold) with Phoenix, a Tiger with [item_icon=madred's bloodrazor](17600gold) will lose at 1 vs 1 and you will still have around 600 HP which is not much for Tiger (tested & confirmed). These items may not be best items for Tiger but i here, want you to understand that there is not a gigantic power difference between Tiger and Phoenix at late game. Tiger (first hit burst) needs more CdR for better damage output but Phoenix (every 3. hit burst) doesnt. Phoenix damages frontal cone every 3. hit which is very good versus bunchd enemies (think it when you have 2.5 AS)
2. Your item build wont damage good and you are not tanky as much as early and mid game because game didnt end and enemy team got their best items but still your damage output and defence is still very good. Only thing that you need to care about is attacking after initiation from an odd direction and focus enemy caster, supporter or ad carry. You should be able to do great jobs that way...
3. You can get initiative about killing Baron if you know its respawn timer: Spawns first at 15 and respawns 8 minutes after killed. Baron buff can grant victory to a losing team.
4. Mid game advices are also valid here.
RiskyJungleAttempts:
WARNING: These are aggressive/risky operations against enemy jungler as it can cause a deep impact on enemy jungler or on you. If your team has Clairvoyance these will be less risky.
1.Blue Thievery: Timing is extremely important here. Blue Golems spawn at 1.55. Tell your teammates to show up at their lanes. This will make them think that your team is not planning anything extraordinary. So they wont protect their jungler for too much. Wait at your team's side of river and wait 2-3 secs after golems spawns and then start to move to golem from mid side. Now we have 3 options here:
a. If your team has Clairvoyance and you have Smite, request cv and wait until golem has 445 HP and use smite from a safe position. As i said, timing is very important. This way is easiest and safest way.
b. If you are not supported by Clairvoyance, move further into bush near golem until you can observe it. The rest is same but more risky. Enemy jungler can detect you and with a help from enemy mid, they wont have much difficulty killing you.
c.This one is even more risky but you have some advantages: You dont have smite. Enemy team wont think that you are jungling (thanks to those guides who forced players to think someone cant jungle without smite) and you dont need CV. CV can alert enemy jungler if he can see the CV effect&sound. If you succeed, your reward is awesome.
If you have Ghost and Ignite, move into bush near golem until you can observe enemy jungler. Wait until he gets blue or wait until golem gets very low (second is better because 2v1 fight is always easier than 1v1) then hit , both at same time and also use if need and get both kill and blue buff then RUN AWAY or RECALL ! If you can manage to run away to safety, recall and buy a and place it on your Blue Golem. This can give your team 2. chance to kill him which can force him to throw in the towel... This'll be so cruel... If he doesnt comes to your blue, give it to one of solo laners as it will help him significantly...
Watch this replay. I've killed GP and taken Blue. Then we killed him 2. time and he gave up from jungling:
(Sorry about PVP.Net message sounds... LOL =P )
This is my next kill (explains why i like Ignite):
(If Alistar had his Pulverize ready, this would be a big fail =D )
2.Red Thievery: Some junglers are slower than you and they kills Red Lizard after first recall. Clairvoyance is required for this one. Clean your team's side of jungle before first recall. Then recall and buy +2 boots. Move towards mid and tell team supporter to throw a CV on enemy Red. If he is there, hit Bear Stance few times and even use Ghost at 2/3 of way if need . Make sure no one sees you and approach to Red Buff from bot/top (not mid) lane side. The rest is as same as Blue Thievery (read a. and c. sections). Stealing enemy Red will make ganking harder for him and you get extra gold and maybe even a kill.
3.Wraith Start: Starting jungle from others side's wraiths will also slow enemy jungler's progress. He will be forced to steal yours which is not a good idea since you are: Udyr "The King of Jungle" !
Jungler Tiger
=============================================================================== A.Pros/Cons of Jungler Tiger
===============================================================================
Pros
1.Wriggle's Lantern will allow you to kill dragon very early. 2. Doesnt need to have Red Buff to catch enemies because we'll get Phage 3. Can solo Baron. 4. Kills squishy enemies faster than Phoenix. 5. 1. hit Tiger effect allows hit & run tactics, you dont need to be engaged for too long. Just deliver 1. hit of Tiger than run, then come to hit again with Tiger. This also allows us to sacrifice some of our heavy defensive items... 6. Slightly higher damage output than Jungler Phoenix at late stage.
Cons
1. Early jungling is slower than Phoenix and unlike Phoenix it'll be even more slower and harder without Smite. 2. Needs teammates who can co-op early game seriously. 3. Very dependant on Blue Buff early on (even more than Phoenix). 4. Expensive build. 5. Has lower resistance than Jungler Phoenix. 6. Needs high CdR for more 1. Tiger hits.
Now to background setup: Key Concepts: Synergy, Attack Damage
=============================================================================== C.Masteries
=============================================================================== 1. This one focuses on Offensive Tree bonuses.
2. This one focuses on Defensive Tree bonuses.
Masteries Summary: Monster Buffs are very important for jungler so that we must spend 9 points in utility tree anyway. Actually ,the rest is up to you... Offensive tree provides good bonuses (AS+AD+ArPen) and Defensive one is all good tree with nice bonuses.
Here is an example for Jungler Tiger versus a balanced enemy team (with masteries & runes):
[builder=Udyr/9da8413966eea15aeea7e36927ca8e01] Note:Wriggle's Lantern changed with The Bloodthirster after mid stage.
Item Discussion:
For jungling i generally start with Cloth Armor+ Health Potionx5 but you don't actually need this starting item combination... You can also start with Boots of Speed+ Health Potionx3... Get Boots of Speed for an early gank otherwise get Cloth Armor in order to get either Ninja Tabi(if you're going to get this boots) or Madred's Razors. After you get boots, work hard to get Wriggle's Lantern asap because its our core item for Jungler Tiger. Then get Sheen if your team has enough CC to catch enemies, otherwise get Phage. Then complete Trinity Force. After this point, it depends on how game is going... If enemy team getting powned, continue to get more offensive items. If its an even game, get Banshee's Veil.
Mercury's Treads: I usually prefer this item for Jungler Tiger because we need more Mres simply... Ninja Tabi: If enemy has more physical damage than magical, take it.
Offensive Items:
Wriggle's Lantern:As i said before, this is core item. Buying even x2 from this item works amazingly early & mid stage. Trinity Force: OMG! Simply, this has everything you need!
[item=madred's bloodrazor]: Awesome bonus to our damage output. The Black Cleaver: Great item for attack speed based AD champions like our Tiger. The Bloodthirster: Best lifesteal item for AD champions. I personally sell Wriggle's Lantern and get this at late stage.
Other Offensive Items: Youmuu's Ghostblade: I would get this item for its CdR nothing else. Udyr doesnt needs Crit and gets enough ArPen from other items. Last Whisper: If you dont like The Black Cleaver somehow... Frozen Mallet: HP and Slow effect is good but why should we need it after we get Trinity Force which is far far more better?
[item=Stark's Fervor]: Nice item at all but doesnt gives AD which is bad for our 1. Tiger hit.
Defensive Items:
Banshee's Veil: Its almost a mandatory item for Udyr. Guardian Angel: All round good defensive item.
Other Situational Defensive Items:
Total Stats Summary (approx.): 2800 HP, 135 Armor, 160 Mres, 2.5 AS, +%30 Lifesteal and 450 MS (without ) and 330 AD for 17650 gold.
Important Note: This build deals (approx.) 7000 mixed damage to an enemy with 3000 HP in 5 secs. Also, absorbs 7000 damage before dying. (Enemy's Resistances, Penetrations and your Turtle Sheilds and possible Critical Hits are not calculated)
Unlike Jungler Phoenix, this one is more dependant on Smite... Its still possible to jungle with Ignite or Surge but it'll be a difficult job so tell your teammate to pull the golem, it will help a little...
Shortly;
1. Smite(recommended), Ignite, Surge
2. Ghost or Flash or Cleanse for required mobility. Pick according to your playstyle.
I personally jungle using this route: Mini Golems -> Wraiths -> Wolves -> Recall -> Blue -> Red -> Wraiths -> Gank.
There are many other routes which some of them starts with Blue, Wolf etc... But why do i leave Blue and Red for last? Because Tiger needs more mana regen and CdR for better gank results.
During this stage (early jungling) try to maintain your HP as high as possible. Because enemy can kill you early and ruin your game... And when fighting with Blue and Red try to pull them to nearest bush. This way will make it harder for enemy to steal it. Also watch for enemy's as it can mean that enemy jungler is attempting to steal your Buff. If your team has you can request it to prevent any thievery.
Consume first 4 skill points like below and after level 4 give few more points to and for best gank results and then give points to to reduce incoming damage at teamfights. Remember that armor and mres enhances turtles sheild. has last priority.
Make a gank attempt after you get Red&Blue to an optimal lane or to enemy jungler or just turn back to jungle...
Here is some tips&tricks about ganking and early stage:
(If you have read Jungler Phoenix->Playstyle section, you dont need to read here) 1.

4. Before gank, if you dont have mana shortage stack your passive to reach +%30 AS (passive) earlier.
After laning phase is over (Mid Stage) and teamfights started to occur your missions are:
Last Stage(Team Fights Stage): As being one of the toughest carries you are a nightmare for enemy team at last stage. Therefore, they will probably use all CC's to stop you... Catching their weaker one wont be so easy. Their carries will jump on you when they can. You'll get Exhausts and Ignites one after another... To prevent all these bad things to happen: DONT RELY ON YOUR TOUGHNESS! Wait until tank does its job(initiate), absorb first shock damage then apply mid game tactics.
Your target priority is: 1. AP Carry 2. AD Carry 3. Support 4.Others... Never chase someone that has low HP and leave your team behind! If you have an empty item slot, get WARDS!
B. Lanedyr
Foreword
As well as an excellent jungler, Udyr is also a very durable laner. With the help of Turtle, you can stay on your lane forever. But its best to recall and get some items from time to time =) Udyr can do solo top fairly well and even solo mid versus some champions.
1. Fairly well solo top performance. 2. Can hold mid lane if need. 3. Amazing magical damage (Phoenix focused build). 4. Awesome physical damage (Tiger focused build). 5. Turtle regenerates both mana and hp which allows you to stay on lane as much as you wish.
Cons
1. Weak laner against ranged carries. 2. Requires a good harraser lanemate to farm efficiently on 2 vs 2 lanes. 3. ?
=============================================================================== B.Good Lanemates & Worst Lane Enemies
===============================================================================
Lanemates
Those who have good harrassment, CC or supporting capability which allows you to farm well... I'll write best ones.
For Phoenix focused build we must concentrate AS-Magical Damage items.
Here is an example Laner Phoenix Build:
[builder=Udyr/9007e3bde52e53d8bae87d042d8c051e]
And for Tiger focused build we need more AD items. Here is an example for Laner Tiger:
[builder=Udyr/df406aefac8a7244fe6b2ca58b3d8352]
Item Discussion:
There can be many good starting items for either Laner Phoenix or Tiger but i prefer to start with Ruby Crystal to get Phage earlier. It will increase your durability and with the help of slowing effect you can get early kills easier. But if its a very difficult lane, get Heart of Gold instead...
After your first item get Ninja Tabi or Mercury's Treads.
Then Madred's Razors for either Tiger or Phoenix build because it will allow you to farm and kill monsters easier.
Then get Sheen for Tiger, Malady for Phoenix to increase damage output significantly.
Next;
For Tiger: After you get , , and if everything is going well, rush for The Bloodthirster. Stacking this item's AD & Lifesteal before late game is very important. If its not going very well but ok, complete Trinity Force. If enemy is fed a bit, get a Negatron Cloak to get Banshee earlier. Dont make haste to complete [item=madred's bloodrazor] and The Black Cleaver because they are more efficient if enemy has high amounts of HP and Armor...
For Phoenix: After you get , , and if game is alright, get [item=madred's bloodrazor]. If its even, get Wit's End. Or buy Negatron Cloak to get Banshee earlier if enemies are stronger. Frozen Mallet can wait until other items are bought.
Other Items:
For Tiger: Atma's Impaler: Very nice item if you have 3000+ HP. Armor, Crit, %HP->Dmg... These bonuses for just 2.3k gold is never a bad choice. Hexdrinker: A solid item for early/mid game. This can save your life numberless times . Last Whisper: A mandatory item if enemy team has serious amounts of Armor. Wriggle's Lantern: This item is great versus physical melee champions. You can even get x2 from this but your late game performance wont be very shiny... Youmuu's Ghostblade: Viable choice. I would take it for its CdR bonus because there is no other CdR+AD item.
[item=Stark's Fervor]: In case you dont like The Bloodthirster, get this. Infinity Edge: Extremely expensive and Udyr is not a crit type champion. Bad item for Udyr.
[item=Tiamat]: AD and AoE effect is ok but Udyr doesnt need hp-mana regen after early game... Sword of the Occult: Good item if you are playing against extremely noob team =D
Aegis of the Legion: Perfect defensive item for short games. Spirit Visage: If you are solo'ing, these() will help you more than you think.
For Phoenix:
[item=ionic spark]: An extremely efficient item.
[item=Stark's Fervor]: Decent item. Hextech Gunblade: With these, you can stay in fight longer and hit harder. Only bad thing is: Its expensive. Nashor's Tooth: Expensive and not very efficient. Only good thing is %25 CdR. Trinity Force: We already have slowing effect from Frozen Mallet and we dont need other bonuses of this item for 4000gold!
Other Situational Defensive Items For Both Builds:[item_icon=Force of Nature]
Total Stats Summary for Tiger (approx.): 3000 HP, 135 Armor, 150 Mres, 2.5 AS, 330 AD, %25 Lifesteal, %15 Crit Chance for 17650 gold.
Total Stats Summary for Phoenix (approx.): 3500 HP, 135 Armor, 180 Mres, 2.5 AS for 15000 gold.
Important Note: Both builds deals (approx.) 6500 mixed damage to an enemy with 3000 HP in 5 secs. Phoenix also deals extra 1200 magical damage to other enemies in frontal cone. Also, Tiger build absorbs 7000 damage and Phoenix build absorbs 9000 damage before dying. (Enemy's Resistances, Penetrations and your Turtle Sheilds and possible Critical Hits are not calculated)
Always take at level 1. Then if you are facing with one(or two) of worst enemies, max asap. If its a comfortable lane, max either or depending on your focused build. has 3. priority in all four.
Early Stage (aka Stage): Dont expect much from Laner Udyr early on... Stay Turtle most of the time and last hit minions. Use shield just before enemy's harrassments. It may require some skill but its easy. Phoenix allows you to farm & harrass simultaneously. To harrass with Tiger, stun enemy then deliver 1. hit DoT of Tiger then use Turtle Sheild to retreat (high mana consumption).
Difficuly of this stage of game depends on enemy laners: 1. Laning against melee champions: This stage should be easy because you wont get any difficulties about farming. 2. Laning against caster champions: It'll be harder than melee one but with good timed Sheilding and continued regeneration they'll just waste their mana... 3. Laning against ranged AD champions: This is hardest one because they wont even let you to touch minions... Changing lanes, having a good harrasser or supporter lanemate may help.
Middle Stage(Ganking Stage): When everyones gets their ulties, ganks starts. As Udyr, you already know that you are expert ganker. But first, to prevent getting ganked when trying to gank, buy few wards and place them on strategic points. Staying on lane for too much is not for Udyr. You have Bear to run faster so why not to roam around and interrupt enemy laners or even enemy jungler like crazy? You may also solo dragon if you have good opportunity. As being one of the best chasers in game you can catch offguard- low HP enemies easy but that doesnt means you will "target locked" one of them and chase him to hell.
Wait until tank does its job(initiate), absorb first shock damage. Sometimes its best to wait 1-2 secs after initiation then join the fight. If you attack first you may not survive much even if you have your defensive items. Use your speed to flank or even rear enemy team to reach their vulnerable casters & ranged carries. But try to complete your positioning before initiation or it can be too late... Attacking from odd directions is a great idea. With this way they wont be able to focus or counter you very well and it will cause panic. If your team catches them unprepared or you have a clear advantage over them, just charge in... Your target priority is: 1. AP Carry 2. AD Carry 3. Support 4.Others... Never chase someone that has low HP and leave your team behind! If you have an empty item slot, get wards!
C. Tankdyr
Foreword
Udyr's versatility and flexibility allows him to be a decent tank. In case your team doesnt have a dedicated tank champion like Amumu, Alistar etc.. Udyr can fulfill that duty not as good as them but still he does pretty well.
1. Move around like a boss. Slap lazy workers. =P 2. Fastest tank in the game. (Rammus has PB but its for one time use. You can spam bear) 3. Turtle Shield can absorb up to 660 damage each 3.6 secs (with %40 CdR & 200 Resistance). 4. Interrupting enemy in teamfights like crazy.
Cons
1. Expensive build. 2. Low damage output. 3. Dumb early game. 4. There are actually better tanks for late game.
Now lets take a look into background setup: Key Concepts: Synergy, Durability
Greater Mark of Strength
These will help you to farm better and maybe even will help you get some kills early on. Greater Mark of Resilience
Since you will give many skill points to Turtle early on these runes are also viable since your Shield will benefit from your extra armor.
Greater Glyph of Shieldingx3 + Greater Glyph of Wardingx6
This combination will provide noticable amounts of Mres for both early and mid game. And have you remembered synergy between your turtle sheild and resistances ? Greater Glyph of Focus
These are another choice but Mres ones are far more better...
=============================================================================== C.Masteries
=============================================================================== Almost every mastery in Defensive Tree fits perfectly on Tankdyr.
Example of Tank Udyr Build against a balanced enemy team (with masteries and runes):
[builder=Udyr/665848dd2fe586606ef22354665fc805]
Its a quite expensive build (15850gold) but very tanky also...
[builder=Udyr/bcae577242315e51a11298e277b7bc6a]
This is another build. Its cheaper and easier to get (only 9990 gold!). Provides better tankyness for mid game and one situational free item slot for late game.
Item Discussion:
There is no first item i can say "must buy"... But getting a Ruby Crystal as first item will help you to get Heart of Gold earlier. Getting it asap will get you more gold since you cant farm very well at laning stage...
After first item, get Ninja Tabi against physical or balanced enemy OR Mercury's Treads against magical enemy team.
Getting Catalyst the Protector after, is often best choice. It'll help you greatly at laning stage.
After this i wont say that you must get this, you must get that because it depends on how game is going and whats overall damage type of enemy team and whats your team's composition. I'll talk about items one by one...
Spirit Visage: Nice HP, Mres, Regen bonus and %10 CdR are just great for early/mid game plus its cheap. Aegis of the Legion: Nice stats and Aura. Very good for early/mid game. Hexdrinker: A viable choice. When used with turtle's sheild, it can save you from a grim situation at early/mid game. Quicksilver Sash: In case, enemy has annoying amounts of CC and you dont have Cleanse... Guardian Angel: This is a "Hope Breaker" item. With enough HP and this item, you can move between enemies freely and slap anyone you want in team fights. Good item from early to late game. Banshee's Veil: Not for just Tank Udyr, i recommend this item for every Udyr. It doesnt needs much explanation its just great against magical damage. Frozen Mallet: An expensive item but why do i like it ? When you are slapping everyone in teamfights with bear this item slows them by %40 for 2.5 secs. And with Randuin's active effect enemy team will move like they are 90 years old grandpapas. Randuin's Omen: Just like Banshee's Veil, this item doesnt even need explanation. Its just great against physical damage. Warmog's Armor: Which tank doesnt likes 1370 HP from a single item ? This is best for late game tanking.
[item=force of nature]: Although i dont recommend this at first but if even Banshee's Veil doesnt protects you enough get this item. Thornmail: Get it when enemy has legendary amounts of physical damage. Atma's Impaler: Its armor and AD for %2 of max HP will transform you into a Tanky Beast. Sunfire Cape: In case Randuin's Omen doesnt protects you enough, this is a viable choice.
Other Items :
Leviathan: Since you are slapping/slowing everyone in teamfights, you'll get assists which will get you 1 stack for each. Getting this item after Guardian Angel is better choice. But again stacking items are always risky: If you lose your stacks you can lose a well going game... Abyssal Scepter: A viable choice IF your team has serious magical damage output or even other Mres items can protect you. This item will also enhance your turtle sheild by 56 versus magical damages.
Frozen Heart: Get this item if you are playing with Ryze not with Udyr...
[item=Soul Shroud]: Good for supporters not for tanks...
Total Stats Summary (approx.): 5150 HP, 190 Armor, 230 Mres for 15500 gold.
Important Note: With this build, we can absorb (approx.) 17000 mixed damage before dying. (Turtle Sheilds and Penetrations are not calculated)
1. Cleanse is required for Tank Udyr to accomplish his mission in teamfights. But if you think that you dont need cleanse, pick Exhaust to disable a carry OR Ignite to shutdown crazy lifestealers and even maybe some kills.
2. Ghost is good for every Udyr. Recommended.
2. Flash is a viable choice but i personally dont recommend it for Tank Udyr.
2. Teleport is a mediocre spell for Tank Udyr.
has 1. has 2. and or has 3. priority but always start with . I personally prefer Tiger as 3. priorty and giving 1 point to it early on is often good. It is for better harrassment and maybe even killing early on.
Early Stage (aka Stage): Like all other tanks, dont expect much from Tank Udyr early on... Stay Turtle most of the time and last hit minions. Use shield just before enemy's harrassments. It may require some skill but its easy.
Changing lanes or having a good harrasser lanemate may help.
Middle Stage: This is Udyr's best stage. With a couple of tanky items + turtle leveled up you can even tower dive with your team. There will be team fights at this stage and your job is to stun as many as you can. When stunning them try to stun enemy caster before he rains his spells on your team. AS-AD carries has 2. priority. Stunning them for 1 sec can ruin them. 3. priority is supporters. 4. priority is protecting your vulnerable teammate and dont forget to use Cleanse when you need. Shifting to Turtle between every 2 stance will mitigate HP loss. Travelling across map with bear provides better map control for your team since its only 35 mana at level 5.
Last Stage: The most important thing to know about last stage Tank Udyr is: You're not tanky enough (like at mid stage, even with full build) to hold enemies for too long. Udyr cant stand against 5 enemies like Rammus or Cho'Gath because Udyr is not made to be a tank. Because of this, you must play like an off-tank at last stage of game. Lead your team by a small distance and fulfill stun priorities.
D. AP Udyr
Foreword
If you are bored and want to try something different with Udyr try AP-AS Udyr. As you know, Udyr is not made to be an AP champion but with some customization it can be worthy of respect. Our main focus here will be enhancing Phoenix and Turtle.
1. Different experience with Udyr. 2. Powerful Phoenix like never before. Hell like AoE damage. 3. Turtle sheild blocks 400(approx.) damage (at least 800 with resistances calculated)
Cons
1. Rather squishy late game. 2. Very dependant on CdR because your defence mostly relies on Turtle Sheild.
Items that give both AP and AS are core items. Here is an example (with masteries and runes):
[builder=Udyr/261a9f832055062994d26106a108bff1]
Item Discussion:
Starting with a Meki Pendant is decent choice because it'll allow you to stay in lane more. You'll be able to get Fiendish Codex (which we are going to build it into ) faster. Or get Doran's Shield for safer start.
If you are going to jungle, see Phoenix Jungler-> Items section for starting items.
Mercury's Treads: If you need more Mres. versus "right-clickers" and for more hellfire... Guinsoo's Rageblade: Gives both AP and AS. Its also cheap. Nashor's Tooth: Great item for AP Udyr. CdR is also awesome. Lich Bane: AP, Mres, +%7 MS and its sheen effect will deal significant damage since you'll have some serious amounts of AP... Rylai's Crystal Scepter: 500 HP + 80 AP + Slow effect is allround solid item. Hextech Gunblade: If you have enough AS, this item is just AWESOME... Abyssal Scepter: More than +AP and Mres this item reduces Mres of every enemy around by 20. Its great since you have serious AoE damage. Void Staff: Buy it to not become useless against Mres stacking teams. Rabadon's Deathcap: It gives amazing AP but i dont see it as a viable item. We are playing Udyr not Annie... Banshee's Veil, Guardian Angel, Sunfire Cape are solid defensive choices.
Total Stats Summary (approx.): 3200 HP, 150 Armor, 140 Mres, 1.7 AS, 370 AP (with &), %35 CdR, 425 MS (520 MS with ) for 15500 gold.
Important Note: This build deals (approx.) 5000 mixed damage to single target and 2600 magical AoE damage in 5 secs. Also, absorbs 7800 damage before dying. (Enemy's Resistances, Penetrations and your Turtle Sheilds and possible Critical Hits are not calculated)
As i said before, Cleanse&Ghost is a great combination for laner Udyr. Also, Surge is awesome for AP Udyr. But others are also viable choices. Set up according to your playstyle...
Read Jungling Phoenix -> Playstyle section if you are jungling or, read Laning Phoenix -> Playstyle section if you are laning.
E. The Ultimate UDYR
Foreword For those who wants even more action,
For those who has more killing ambition,
For those who gives a little value to protection,
For those who have already mastered UDYR!
1. Utilizing both Tiger & Phoenix simultaneously. 2. Incredible damage output in very short time. 3. Very rarely loses 1v1 fights. 4. Did i say "incredible damage output" ?
Cons
1. Rather less tanky than other builds. 2. Your team must be coordinated really seriously. 3. Your team must have a skilled real tank. 4. Very expensive build.
Greater Mark of Insight
We will be using 1. hit Tiger, Phoenix, and Madred's damage and all of these are magical damage so more Magic Pen. for more damage. Why no ArPen? Because we'll already have ArPen from an item.
Here is an example Ultimate Udyr build (with runes & masteries):
[builder=Udyr/45454c3169926e2201c3c2732e689abe]
Item Discussion:
We need AD and CdR for higher and frequent 1. Tiger hit, AS for more 3. Phoenix hit, Lifesteal/SpellVamp for more survivability. Therefore we get Ionian Boots of Lucidity, The Black Cleaver, [item=madred's bloodrazor] and Hextech Gunblade. Trinity Force, because its has enhanced Sheen effect, MS, HP, AD etc etc... Its expensive but worthy. Last item slot is for situational defensive item. Buy Anti-AD or Anti AP item depending on enemy team. I usually get Banshee's Veil for more durability simply because if you are going to die in 2 sec, then what are all these for?
There are other useful offensive-defensive items but i didnt test them so you are free to use them at your own risk.
Total Stats Summary (approx.): 3000 HP, 140 Armor, 130 Mres, 2.5 AS (with and ), 300 AD & 170 AP (with ) , +%40 Total HP-Steal, 430 MS (without ) for 18125 gold.
Important Note: This build deals (approx.) 11000 mixed damage to an enemy with 3000 HP in 5 secs. Also, absorbs 6600 damage before dying. (Enemy's Resistances, Penetrations and your Turtle Sheilds and possible Critical Hits are not calculated)
Your early & mid stage will be pretty much same. Stay out of risky actions as much as possible, farm as much as you can, gank enemy lanes when you can etc etc. At last stage you must be even more careful about when and where to attack because you are rather squishy compared to other Udyr builds.
When attacking:
1. (press Tiger before fight and then switch to Bear immediately)
2. (change after stun)
3. (change after 1. hit)
4. (change just before x3 effect fades)
5. Apply 3. and 4. until enemy dies.
HAPPY HUNTING !
F. Udyr in Twisted Treeline
Foreword Twisted Treeline is Udyr's favourite ground... It's like a large jungle (home) for him and he feels good inside. With correct setup & playstyle, he is unbeatable there.
Pros 1. Burst damage of "Tiger Strike" scares enemies off letting you to dominate your lane. 2. Early leveling up Bear allows you to attend almost every fight, providing your team a great advantage. 3. Obtains monster buffs easily even at early levels. 4. Fits to any (well at least most of) allied team composition. Just lock in and lean back ; )5. Expert ganker, chaser, runner. Durable laner. Respected as AD carry. What else you want ?
Cons 1. Phoenix is rather ineffective than Tiger. Because you they will sprint back before you hit enough 3. phoenix strike. 2. Completely melee fighter -> can cause you to miss low health opponents more than in SR because map is small and escaping is easier. 3. ?
Greater Glyph of Wardingx6 + Greater Glyph of Shieldingx3 OR [rune=Greater Glyph of Shielding]x9 6+3 setup provides better early protection against AP champions. x9 Shielding one is always a solid choice though...
Here is an example build against balanced enemy team (with runes & masteries):
[builder=Udyr/58c44d8f6d17610372dc5e52237ed338] Usually, TT matches are not very long so its best to buy mid range items, not very expensive items (except Trinity Force)
Versus AD focused enemy team: Wriggle's Lantern: Its possible to buy a second one of this. But it's risky if game doesn't finishes soon. Randuin's Omen: If enemy has reasonable amounts of physical damage output. Thornmail: Against extremely AD focused enemy team.
Versus AP focused enemy team: Hexdrinker: Very good mid stage item. Nice Passive... Wit's End: Both offensively and defensively qualified item. Udyr best friend not only in TT but also in SR. Banshee's Veil: Your last choice against AP enemies... If this is not enough, then nothing is enough.
Some offensive items: Youmuu's Ghostblade: AD, AS, CdR, MS Boost, Ar.Pen, Crit. Chance... Is there anything else you want for 2700 gold ? Trinity Force: Even though its very expensive, its worthy to spend 4k gold for this. Has everything you need... Especially Sheen bonus. The Black Cleaver: If enemy has serious amounts of armor. [item=madred's bloodrazor]: If enemy has serious amounts of hp.
Total Stats Summary (approx.): 2700 HP, 165 Armor, 155 Mres, 2.5 AS (with ), 250 AD, %30 Crit, %15 Lifesteal, %23 CdR for 13150 gold.
Important Note: This build deals (approx.) 4000 mixed damage to a single target in 5 seconds. Also, absorbs 6600 damage before dying. (Enemy's Resistances, Penetrations and your Turtle Sheilds and possible Critical Hits are not calculated)
1.: Almost mandatory for TT. 2.: Has 2. priority after Flash. Useful when enemy is about to flash-out with just %2 HP... Guaranteed Kill.
Other Spells:
: Good against agile and fed physical carries. : An alternative for Flash. It has some advantages for TT but still Flash is better i think. : Always viable. Cleansing a stun or a slow can let you safely escape or catch and kill your enemy.
Grab your first item, give the ability point to Tiger and switch to Tiger on the spawning pool then (preferably) go to top lane. Deliver the stored tiger strike to enemy laner then hit Q to deliver 2. tiger strike immediately. This will reduce enemy's hp to at least %50 leaving him weak as you utilize your summoner spells for first blood. But don't get ganked when trying to achieve something...
As it's said before, TT is smaller than SR. And it's like a large jungle. Matches are rather short, fights are quickly resolved type. Therefore, our build and playstyle should be corresponding... Most games finishes in like 25-30 mins so rushing hard for expensive items is often not a good idea. We will be farming to get mid range items.
Gank whenever enemy push the other lane and don't push your lane too much... Some players such as Fiddlesticks, Nocturne and Lee Sin can suddenly jump on you from nowhere, so either place an early ward on elder lizard or watch out for missing enemies on mini-map. Kill jungle monsters when farming on lane isn't suitable. And take an initiative about getting monster buffs because they have a great effect on the game.
Placing wards is also crucial mission in this map. Put them especially on dragon and elder lizard. Champions such as Amumu, Blitzcrank, Morgana are also very dangerous so keep an eye out for them. Don't chase wounded enemies for too long or you may find yourself in a hell... Flash extremely useful at this map so make a good use of it. Set cruel ganks to weaken enemy lanes.
If you have enough gold and defensive items, get an to destroy enemy wards. This will have a deep impact on enemy's map control but be careful, you will be "most wanted" person for them. Take these advice, play with your team, take responsibility, don't be selfish and you will succeed in most of the time...
G. Udyr in Crystal Scar
Coming Soon...
1 vs 1 Fights
Foreword
As i said before, Udyr's versatility makes him very strong. On 1v1 situations he can kill nearly all champions but there are tricky ones which i am going to talk about. Versus AP champions, if you have enough resistance to survive first burst with a reasonable HP, you can kill them without any problem...
- Always know your enemies summoner spells!
-Ashe, The Frost Archer
She is actually no threat for you. You can kill him in few seconds but her Frost Shots can ruin you before you can reach her. If you have Cleanse, use it before using Ghost+Bear Stance to catch her. But make sure she dont have her Enchanted Crystal Arrow ready or you will just waste your spells...
-Irelia, the Will of the Blades
Irelia is one of best solo and duello champions. If she has some resistance and attack speed items, she is very dangerous for you. Randuin's Omens active effect, lifesteal works well against her. If you dont have these items dont go 1v1 with her.
-Jax, Grandmaster at Arms
After remake, Jax is not that dangerous as he was... Still, he is a hybrid champion like Udyr: Delivering both physical and magical damage. His ultimate makes him significantly competitive. He hits like a gatling gun. If you dont have a significant advantage over him (more hp, better items) dont go 1 vs 1 with him.
-Kog'Maw, the Mouth of the Abyss
Kog'Maw is much like Ashe. He can pin you down by his %60 slowing Void Ooze and hurt you really bad before you can reach him. But again if you have Cleanse, its no problem. Check your HP before fight and dont forget his passive: Icathian Surprise.
-Mordekaiser, the Master of Metal
He is very squishy early game but very tanky and has some serious amounts of damage output after mid game. You both are nearly equal until he uses his Children of the Grave+Ignite. Its even harder to beat him if he has ultimate but if you have enough Mres he is no problem.
-Olaf, The Berserker
He excells at 1v1 situations. Never think you are winning if you are damaging him more at first because he is more dangerous when he has lower HP. When fighting for example: he has around %30 HP and you have around %50. If he uses Ragnarok+Vicious Strikes, this means its time to run...
-Tryndamere, The Barbarian King
Tryndamere is very item dependant champion. He is piece of cake if he hasnt Infinity Edge&Phantom Dancer and even if he uses Undying Rage he is still easy... Yes, when he uses ulty, just slap him with bear and run away a little then use bear again to reach him and hunt him down! If you have Exhaust, this will be much more easier. This was easy, now lets get to the difficult part: In case he is well equipped, he can kill you without even needing his ulty... If you dont have Thornmail, stay away from him.
-Trundle, the Cursed Troll
His every ability gives him more superiority over you... He steals your AD, HP, Armor, Mres and becomes stronger than you. This doesnt means you cant beat him but it will be harder. If your build is Jungler Phoenix type, he is easy to kill because he cant steal your AS.... HAHA!
-Tristana, The Megling Gunner
She may seem to be a free kill but the problem is: "How do i reach her?" She has 2 annoying (Rocket Jump&Buster Shot) abilities which prevents you from even touching her... And think if she has Red Buff... Bah! Just leave her be...
-Warwick, The Blood Hunter
Meet Udyr's rival. He can race with you through early game to late game pretty evenly. His stacking lifesteal enhanced with AS makes him very durable champion versus melee champions like Udyr. And your Turtle Stance is simply useless against his Hungering Strike. There is only one way to defeat him: Use Ignite or Executioner's Calling (if you have) on him and kill him as quickly as possible or else his fast life stealing capability can grant him victory.
Stance Dancing Details
Ever met a champion in LoL that can both dance and fight at the same time? No, you didnt - until now! =D Stance Dance is core element when playing Udyr.
Changing stances simultaneously to get multiple buffs for a short time is what we call as "Stance Dance" (shortly SD) Every SD has its own usage and bonuses. And here i'll talk about what do we get and when should we do different SD'es.
1. -> (Also called Pre-Tiger or Double Tiger): We'll use this to both stun and deliver 1. Tiger hit. Then we can switch to Tiger again to hit a second 1. Tiger hit to deliver amazingly high damage in a very short time. Good for ganks.
2. -> : This combo is very useful when we want to heal & mana up very fast. While early jungling, after 1. Tiger hit you don't need to stay in Tiger. Hit Turtle to get shield, and fast regen with help of Tiger's AS buff. This also helps in 1v1 when you and enemy have very low HP.
3. -> (Also called Ultimate Udyr): Why do i call this as Ultimate ? Because if something is damaging for 500 to 2000 damage in just few secs, then there is no problem calling it as Ulty! After 1. Tiger hit, immediately switch to Phoenix and let it to do its job until just before your passive fades.
4. -> or: Sometimes its good to switch to Turtle and then Tiger/Phoenix. It'll absorb some damage in team fights while we are attacking. And with that way, we'll be able to use Turtle Sheild more frequently.
5. -> : Its good when we are initiating a teamfight. Switch to Bear immediately after Turtle and stun someone. Then again switch to Turtle immediately. A >> combo can absorb up to 1200 damage! (with 200 resistance)
5. -> : This your finishing move. Chase/Stun with bear, Kill with Tiger.
6. -> : This is another initiation combo but its rather useful for fake initiation. To lure someone or whole enemy team into somewhere... Run towards enemy when you are Bear then switch to Turtle and run back. This is also very useful when you are escaping.
7. -> : This another finishing move. Its for the times that you just cant reach them by few pixels and they have around %1-2 HP... Chase with Bear and when you close the gap but just cant hit, switch to Phoenix and keep chasing... Hopefully they die...
8. -> : Your Tower Destroyer combo. As you know, Phoenix gives AD buff so switching to Phoenix before Tiger allows us to destroy towers quicker. This also can be used to heighten 1. tiger hit...
9. -> : Phoenix gives AP buff and can enhance Turtle Shield by an amount depending on your build. For example: if you are AP Udyr, using this combo will enhance your shield by 185 which means, it almost doubles your shield.
10. -> : Error: Unidentified combo OR This is what happens if you burn a bear ehehe xD Actually i dont see any viable use of this combo... Tell me if you know something about it.
Conclusion
As i said, Udyr is the most flexible and versatile. He is a champion that you can discover something new about him when you are playing your 100. game with him. I think he is so unique! So play with him as many times as you can! If you are new to Udyr, i recommend you to start with Tankdyr because its rather easier than others... And for those who seeks more challenge, i recommend The Ultimate Udyr because its rather harder to play... You can play with Udyr using many many ways. So why not to make your own build according to your own playstyle?
Here is a nice clip worthy of watching =)
