  • Abilities

    Sunlight
    Leona's damaging spells affect the target with Sunlight for 3.5 seconds. When allied champions deal damage to those targets they consume the Sunlight debuff to deal 20-140 additional magic damage. The bonus damage increases by 15 every 2 levels. Leona is unable to activate the additional damage herself.

    I love this ability in a duo lane with a ranged AD lane partner. It really helps the harassment and even for getting first blood and other kills. I wouldn't recommend bothering about it too much unless you have a good ranged DPS that can take advantage of it the most.

    In the team fight, focus all your abilities on the enemy you want to crush, this is another way sheen/tri force works on Leona. If you time the abilities with the sheen proc, your team mates get maximum usage of the passive.


    Shield of Daybreak
    Leona's next basic attack will deal additional magic damage and stun the target for 1.25 seconds.

    Another great ability, taken first if you have a good lane partner capable of getting a first blood and many more kills. AP sion, Ashe, Caitlyn are some examples of good lane partners.

    Since this is an on-hit effect you can proc Q before using E to initiate, getting the stun straight away. This works best until you are high level and have been leveling E. E has it's own snare.


    Eclipse
    Leona raises her shield to gain bonus Armor and Magic Resistance for 3 seconds. When the effect ends she deals magic damage to nearby enemies and prolongs the effect for a bonus 3 seconds if any enemies are struck.

    The bread and butter of any leona build. This is what keeps her in lane, keeps her in the team fights and generally just keeps leona alive and her enemies dead. the idea is to get it to hit everyone around you, then regardless of who your team mates are focusing, they benefit from the passive.


    Zenith Blade
    Leona projects a solar image of her sword, which deals magic damage to all enemies in a line. When the image fades, the last enemy champion struck will be briefly immobilized and Leona will dash to them.
    Range: 700

    this is the only ability I have concerns about on Leona. It may be the range may be the only thing that stops Leona from being having viable ganking ability. Without the movement speed I have been building towards and using mastery points on, I have been unsuccessful at initiation, it would seem as soon as you get boots you can simply outrun it unless you are at pointblank range. Being able to catch up to them benefits this more late game.


    Solar Flare
    After a brief delay, Leona calls down a beam of solar energy dealing damage and slowing enemies by 80% for 1.5 seconds. Enemies in the center of the beam are stunned instead of slowed.

    A great ultimate, but hard to master. timing is crucial, aim is crucial and it's a short radius so it's easy to escape. flash makes it very hard to land, best used in conjunction with your stun so use it early combo.


  • Introduction

    My first guide on my favorite champ, do not down vote just because she has just been released, I am not rushing this guide and I will continue to update as I experiment more builds and options.

    I used the build below for the last 2 Leona games, after experimenting on pure tank.

    Ignore the Sivir game. more games with the build below, as you can see, there are some good and some bad, now why is that? That is because Leona is team dependent, you need a good lane-partner but you won't always get one. Also, if other lanes feed too much, you're going to die.

  • Masteries + Runes

    Masteries:
    The masteries I prefer to use are0/15/15.

    Other generic usable mastery options are:

    9.21.0
    9.0.21
    0.9.21
    0.21.9

    I will fill those in later, you should be able to figure it out for now, it's not hard to tell what CDR or tanking masteries to take.

    Runes:
    Greater Mark of Desolation
    Greater Seal of Resilience or Greater Seal of Evasion
    Greater Glyph of Warding or Greater Glyph of Clarity or Greater Glyph of Shielding
    Greater Quintessence of Fortitude

    Summoner Spells:

    Recomended:
    Flash
    Ignite

    Other viable options
    Exhaust
    Ghost

    Could work, possibly
    Teleport
    [spell=fortify]
    Heal (i really hate heal, never use it)

  • Items

    Remember to purchase 1 ward every time you go to the shop. Map awareness is important for tanks, and everyone else on your team.

    I start off with a Regrowth Pendant and one Health Potion
    on my first back I build Philosopher's Stone and Boots of Speed
    My next item is always a [item=Heart of Gold] to finish my core build

    Once I have my core build I will then get either Mercury's Treads or Ionian Boots of Lucidity

    The reason I have not yet built much Mr/armor is due to Leona's W Shield which increases both, allowing me to build for other items early.

    Usually at this point I will go for a Phage followed by Sheen and continue to build towards an Trinity Force why you might ask? trinity force gives a lot of benefits to Leona, a slow to allow your team to nuke them down faster, more sustained damage with the proc and attack speed increasing the amount of threat via damage, movement speed. let's face it, with the short range on her E you want more movement speed, which is another reason I go for 0.15.15 mastery's.

    Beyond this point, it generally depends on what the enemy team actually is, what sort of damage is the biggest threat to me. If it is magic damage, I would build towards a [item=Force of Nature] personally I think this is the best magic resist item and the movement speed will boost you to around 450, not many will get away from you.

    Other options at this point include Sunfire Cape / Thornmail/ Frozen Heart

    After this point, when my slots are full and I have GP5 items left, here are the options I take.

    1. Sell Philosopher's Stone and purchase Banshee's Veil

    2. build [item=heart of gold] in to Randuin's Omen

  • Lane stage, team setup

    to get a good game, I feel Leona depends too much on the early game, You need to be able to stay alive, get a good lane mate and get those assists.

    Lanes partners I would recommend:

    AP Sion
    Vayne
    Xin Zhao
    Caitlyn
    Ashe
    Tristana

    For as long as you get someone which works well in lane with Leona, and the other lanes do not feed, You should be able to have a fun game and a very good chance at winning
