[spell=Tireless Warrior] This is Xin Zhou's passive. It is a very useful one, not the best, but very good nonetheless.
Initially, it starts out at 30 hp restored every 3rd hit, increasing by 5 every 2 levels.
This can later allow room for other items in place of lifesteal that can help survivability.
Three Talon Strike This is what will make players rage at you. When activated it resets the AA counter and does 3 continuous hits, the 3rd hit knocking them into the air. I will refer to this as "q" throughout the guide. Battle Cry A good skill. It passively gives you Attack Speed as well as doubling the passive upon activation. Another note - when activated, it decreases your cooldowns by 1 second per hit. OP in my opinion. Audacious Charge This attack does area damage and slows the target champion for a certain amount.
This skill synergizes with TTS, often allowing to land the 3rd hit. Good initiation skill in conjuction with Crescent Sweep. Use it wisely.
Crescent Sweep Now this ulti is amazing. Along with 375 damage at level 3, it does damage depending on the target's HP. The more they have, the more damage it deals. Think about it as a reverse Garen ulti, which does more damage the less health they have.
Ignite This spell is good on most champs, just as a last hitter, or just to hinder healing
Ghost This spell can either help you catch up to escaping champs, joining a teamfight, or simply fleeing a lost fight.
Flash For obvious reasons.
Clarity Recommended after playing a few games, and you've got the hang of Xin Zhou. Allows for extreme harrassment, as well as supporting your team when pushing, or when you are simply out of mana in a team fight.
This guide is for those who want to learn how to play Xin Zhou. Xin Zhou is a strong DPS champ with high survivability and good team fight mechanics. I recommend him for players seeking a fun champ that tears it up in a team fight.
Masteries + Runes
This section, I believe, is for personal preference.
In my expierence as a player(beta-tester), players are usually better off with their own runebook setups. As long as it is within the respectable playstyle. IE, it is not advisable to have a rune book built for Ryze on Shen.
Use what tickles your belly.
I prefer Attack Speed for Red.
Flat Armor for Yellow.
Flat MR on Blue.
And Flat Armor Quints.
And a 9/21/0 Mastery Setup.
You must be wondering "Why so much defense?"
Well this is because Melee Champions like Xin Zhou are very squishy and targetable in team fights.
Phreak always grabs a full defense mastery tree for example, because DPS champs are item-relient, so whats the hurt in making you last longer, therefore hitting for more damage?
This will also throw off the enemy team, they generally do not look at your stats, only your items and HP.
As a side note, this will lead to a successful early game, as you will be extremely resilient. Trust me, I was double soloing a lane of Olaf and Karthus, hitting level 3, then destroying them both with a little less than half life.
Start the game with a Doran's Shield. This gives you everything you need to lane well, even against an aggressive lane composition like Katarina and Ezreal.
Then, when you've farmed up some gold, and your lane is in the green light, head back and purchase Berserker's Greaves.
The build will then proceed with Youmuu's Ghostblade. The attack damage and armor penetration makes this a very viable item early game. With your q it will be very strong. The damage is a nice plus, as well as the AS from the active, and movement speed. But one of the most important things to take in is the 15% CD reduction, which is crazy synergy with your W.
Afterwards, build a simple Zeal, but don't advance into a Phantom Dancer just yet, that will come soon.
Infinity Edge Will come after Zeal, making your core build at this point. With Ghostblade and Zeal, your critical chance will be at 35%, which is very good since your Q can critical, so with the 20% from Infinity you will total out 55% with your core build only. Now Tryndamere would be proud.
Zeal or Phantom Dancer After Building Black cleaver.
With these core items, you get a good balance of AD and AS. The AS given to you will maximize your cooldowns with your W skill, as well as hitting the 3rd hit of your q faster. It also gives your more health restore with Timeless warrior.
This core build is meant for one purpose. Dishing out as much damage as you can. All of these items give critical chance, AS, AD and even CDR. It is well rounded within the DPS mindset.
After the core build, you will most likely be carrying your team to victory, but if not, and the game reaches the 40 minute mark, then things will get hairy, and you will want to purchase some items to suit the type of game.
When up against a normal team, build
The core items along with The Bloodthirster Guardian Angel
Very standard, good damage, and survivability. Remember to farm, farm, farm. Your Bloodthirster is only as good as your survivability. Continually dying will set you back for its cost.
When up against a tankier team, grab
The core items along with [item=Madred's Bloodrazor] Guardian Angel
The Madred's, along with your AS will rip apart Mundo, Shen, Ect, going along with the survivability.
When up against a heave CC or caster team, you will want
The core items along with Banshee's Veil Guardian Angel Or even [item=Hex Drinker].
Choose the paths accordingly, and remember, you are strong with your items, without your items, you will be a mosquito trying to suck all the blood out of a fed Mundo. GG.
Prioritize your Crescent Sweep first, then Three Talon Strike then Battle Cry then Audacious Charge.
The reason I say TTS first is simple. It is strong. With this build, you lots of critical chance. And this applies to TTS. You will be dishing out damage like its nothing.
People will tell you that Battle Cry is more viable because of the AS and the CDR, but I have one word. Phantom Dancer. You will be grabbing this in your build, along with Youmuu's. As long as you activate it, and activate Battle Cry, you will get the same effect for if you max Battle Cry. Keep that in mind when you have AS but no damage output.
The reason you don't max Audacious Charge first is because it is used for slows and iniations only. If you are using as a means to hurt the target, then you mine as well play Katarina, because Shunpo is a mobile skill used for damage.
Pros / Cons
-Very High Damage Output
-Higher Survivability than most Melee Dps
-Good initiating combo (E,R,Q,W)
-Excellent lane staying power
-Focused down easily
-CC will destroy you
Working in the team
What you want to do is start the fight. Back off if you need to. But you want to E into the opposing team, and use your ulti if there is at least 3 champs present, maximizing the AoE from it. Then q the carries, rinse and repeat.
Basically, you either pick up the kills for yourself, or land enough q moves to pick them up for your teamates.
Also, not many players know this, but you it is possible to use your ulti more than once in a team fight. Your Battle Cry will allow you to use your skills over and over again, with enough AS ( you will ).
There will be more to this guide coming, including strategies for Early, Mid, and Late gaming. This guide may look rushed, I am at school on free time as we speak. But the updates may come slowly, as I have Track, and Tennis is starting soon.
Well anyway, Happy Farming!
Update - 4/16/11 - The Black Cleaver and Last Whisper excluded, replaced by Youmuu's Ghostblade and Infinity Edge
