Zerathos' Guide For An Awesome Miss Fortune

written by Zerathos

Miss Fortune Build

Table of Contents

  • Abilities

    Strut
Very awesome passive. Even without boots, you'll walk nice and fast. Knowing this, you can delay buying your boots a bit.

    Double Up
Very fun ability, but can piss you off at the same time. Deals incredible damage to the seconds target... But (at least with me) tends to hit the wrong target.

    Impure Shots
An extra. It's a very handy spell to take down towers and deal that little extra damage, but i suggest leveling this last.

    Make It Rain
Awesome for farming and poking the enemy. Also your only escaping spell, due to the slow.

    Bullet Time
Incredible. Has a low cooldown, and deals very nice damage. With the right positioning and a bit of luck, it turns an entire teamfight to your favor.

  • Introduction

    External Image

Hello there, I'm Zerathos, and this is my second guide.

Miss Fortune is my secondary charachter, after Vlad, because she can deal awesome damage while staying at a safe distance.

I do want to note that this is a guide on how *I* play her, and i do encourage people to try new things and search for their own playstyle.

However, this guide DOES give very handy tips, which I DO suggest following.

Please upvote if you like this guide, and leave feedback if you don't!

  • Changelog

    *8 December 2011*;
    *Completely overhauled the entire guide.
Why? Because a certain patch has changed Miss Fortune from an AD carry to something MUCH more versatile.
She is now much more viable as a hybrid, and personally, i prefer her like a hybrid.
I still kept the AD build around, though with a little tweaks, but I really recommend the hybrid build now.

*Removed Manamune from reccomended items. These new builds are simply MUCH too expensive to buy extra's.

    Skilling Order:

Bullet Time > Double Up > Make It Rain > Impure Shots

  • Masteries

    Hybrid: 21/1/8

    AD Carry: 21/1/8

Most of the time, I use the hybrid build.

But to be fair, I am of the opinion that nearly all mastery builds work for Miss Fortune, you just need to look at what you think you lack while playing Miss Fortune.

Tend to die alot? Take 21 points to Defense.
Have a lot of mana problems? Take 21 points to Utility.
Lack damage? Take 21 points to Offense.
    etc.

  • Summoner Spells

    Summoner Spells:

    Flash and Ghost
These are the spells that i find myself using most.

But actually, you don't necessarily need to take both Flash and Ghost, i just take both because it keeps me the safest, and because most of the time Miss Fortune is too far away from the battle to effectively use Exhaust or Ignite or something. I do recommend taking at least one of the two, and then pick whatever one you want as a second spell. Whichever one you pick, try to take the fitting mastery along with it, if it fits your mastery build.

    Good Choices:

Ignite : To deal that extra damage while you are fighting. Also very handy for those pesky healers like Mundo, Warwick and Vlad.

Exhaust : Miss Fortune needs to focus on a target with her auto-attacks to really kill someone, this spell helps you keep up with your target better to do this. Also very handy vs the other auto-attackers who focus you, like Twitch or Yi.

Cleanse : A very handy escape spell. It can be a very solid replacement for your second escape spell, I reccomend taking this one with Flash if you choose to do so.

Teleport : Enhances your laning phase, which is always nice. If you pick this, you will trade in-combat effectiveness for a better laning phase, better farm, and a better oppertunity to backdoor late-game.

Surge : I personally don't really like this spell, but seeing as Miss fortune can both really use the attack speed and ability power, i consider it a good choice.

    Meh Choices:

Clarity : If you have a lot of mana problems, which i could understand, then just take this along with you. Just remember, around Mid-late game, this spell becomes relatively useless to you.

Heal : Same as Clarity. If you find yourself constantly being at low health while laning as Miss Fortune, you can take this. Just remember that, just as Clarity, it becomes useless mid-late game.

Clairvoyance : It's better to let a tank or supporter take this.

    Do not take:

Smite : This is for junglers, or people who have severe problems farming minions, like Alistar. You are no jungler, and farming minions is very easy for you.

Revive : Obvious Troll-choice is obvious.

  • Skilling Order

Bullet Time > Double Up > Make It Rain > Impure Shots

Most of the time, this is how i level my skills, and it works out pretty good.

  • Items - AD Carry

    Possible Starting Items:
Doran's Blade; A very solid choice, and the most common one at that. If you do not mind delaying your main build, take this.

Long Sword + 1 Health Potion; Also a good choice, since the this can be upgraded into a Phage later on.

Boots of Speed + 3 Health Potion's; With this, you have a pretty solid sustain, and you can go on with your main build almost right away. However, although it grants more safety vs ganks and harass, the movement speed is a bit overkill.

First, start building towards an Infinity Edge, starting with a B. F. Sword.

With Miss Fortune, you have a few choices for boots. The most common choice is Mercury's Treads. But if the enemy have almost no CC, then you can go for Boots of Swiftness. Ninja Tabi could be a choice too, but only take it when your opponents have no CC, and mostly rely on auto-attacks.

After that, build towards a Frozen Mallet, the health and slow it gives are a must have for Miss Fortune.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that the must have items are out of the way, here come the extra items!

    Offensive choices:

The Black Cleaver - Take this if your opponents are stacking some armor to counter you.

Last Whisper - If they are REALLY stacking a TON of armor, then forget The Black Cleaver and go with this one.

[item=Madred's Bloodrazor] - If your opponents have shitloads of health.

The Bloodthirster - A very handy item that bolsters your AD and survivability. Take this if none of the above apply.

    Defensive Choices:

Banshee's Veil - One of the best defensive options in my opinion.

Guardian Angel - The Second best Defensive choice for Miss Fortune in my opinion.

Hexdrinker - If your opponents deal a shitload of magical damage. However, if you decide you need this, build it BEFORE you build a Infinity Edge.

Thornmail - If your going vs 3 or more (or 1 that's fed) champions that deal excessive physical damage. They will be beating their own faces at the same time when they pick you as their target.

[item=Force of Nature] - If your going vs 3 or more (or 1 that's fed) champions that deal excessive magical damage. The movement speed and HP regen are also good profit!

Warmog's Armor - If you are going vs a mixed team and you just need a good ol' big pool of health. Watch out for the bastards that deal a Percentage of your health, though. (*NOTE: Be sure to gather some minions to bolster this baby, or else you'll be wasting potential)

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This build has fallen off a little bit since hybrid has become viable for her, but it is still perfectly viable.

The Pro's of this build is that you deal more Physical damage, and you are a bit more beefy due to Frozen Mallet.

  • Items - Hybrid

    Possible Starting Items:
Doran's Blade; A very solid choice, and the most common one at that. If you do not mind delaying your main build, take this.

Long Sword + 1 Health Potion; Also a good choice. However, it does not upgrade into anything special until much later in the game, where it can be upgraded into a Phage and eventually a Trinity Force.

Boots of Speed + 3 Health Potion's; With this, you have a pretty solid sustain, and you can go on with your main build almost right away. However, although it grants more safety vs ganks and harass, the movement speed is a bit overkill.

    Mid-Game:
    [builder=Miss Fortune/96687aba897cf9e37484ceb1576a17b0]

    Late-Game:

    Finished Build:
    [builder=Miss Fortune/9ba4a61899177c23d576b2a82de6bf3d]

If you find yourself dying too often, Switch trinity with something defensive. (Check 'Items - AD Carry' section).

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This build has become more viable and fun to me, ever since it has become viable for her, it allows your Impure Shots and Make It Rain to deal more damage then before, while Bullet Time's damage stays quite the same.

The Pro's of this build is that you deal more magic damage, your Impure Shots and Make It Rain deal more damage, and you will be having much more life steal and spell vamp as well. However, your physical damage and overall beefiness suffer for it a bit.

  • Tips

    - Whatever items you buy, Infinity Edge and Hextech Gunblade are almost a must.
    - Remember to buy Elixirs and Wards.
    - Strut is a nice and free Boots of Mobility, use this to your advantage.
    - Miss Fortune is one of the best Burst DPS out there, use this info to take better note of your role.
    - Do NOT stand in the front lines, it is not YOUR role to attract the attention of the enemies... I've seen too much squishies standing out in front.
    - Bullet Time has an obscenely long range and in can fire through most environmental areas.
    - Make It Rain is a great support tool to slow down enemies.
    - Always use Impure Shots when you are trying to take down a tower.
    - Impure Shots gives your DPS some more burst the more you focus your target.
    - Positioning is key, especially with Miss Fortune. Move around a lot, try taking down enemies from multiple fronts, and always have an escape plan ready.

  • Pros / Cons

    + Great Farmer.
+ Able to deal incredible damage, be it magical or physical.
+ Fast runner while in Strut.
+ Can take down towers very quick with Impure Shots.

    - Once hit out of Strut, she can't escape very well.
    - Very squishy if you choose not to take defensive items.
    - Needs good positioning to unlock her true potential.
    - Very Item-dependant, like most carries.
    - VERY expensive Item builds.
