  • Introduction

    Hi, My name is TheLiquidSnake and today i wanna talk about: Emumu, the jungling Emo.

    I have a not finished guide to Soak Mundo cause as i tested Amumu he really stamps my brain.

    This guide will only discuss about Jungling Amumu! Because I think everything else is bad for team composition and you fit 2 roles in one so your carries can concentrate on killing enemies!

    I have some overview for you, why you should choose this amazing Tank as your main as tanking.

    1. AoE CC ult
    2. one of the best tank junglers
    --2a) grants your mates a solo exp lane
    --2b) escapes every jungle gank with his Q
    --2c) only AoE effects to clean camps fast
    3. anti-tank char (cause of his W do % damage)
    4. great defense and survuvability
    5. did I mention that fucking great AoE CC ult?!?


    I main Amumu a long time now and think I can write this and pass my experience to new player and maybe pass some tipps and tricks to some higher player.

  • Updates

  • Pros / Cons

    Pro:
    + Clean a pushed lane in under 5 seconds
    + Can initiate savely and pop his ult to let his team get enemies to 50% HP before Teamfight begin
    + Build costs nearly nothing and isnt that important after your core so you can build aura items to support and boost survivability in Teamfights
    + Independent to Life stacking like Warmogs (never get this on Amumu)
    + Can ward (you have enough money to do this) while Jungling or return to Teamfights and pul with Q to the fight faster
    + you can win a 2v5 with a fed carrie by your side after your 3 teammates lost a teamfight (did this with a YI at all 5 enemies have about 40% health gave us much lols :) same was working with a Jax ;) and both were happy about a Penta)

    Cons:
    - Get focused cause of his W and E AoE
    - you will die at early to mid in Teamfights to save your allies and grant them an ACE (nearly never die at late game) *avarage is about 3-5 deads early to mid game*
    - You are very Blue Buff depended, cause before a teamfight your ult should be up and your mana is draining very fast when u spam E and have W activated! (this will be no problem if you reached your mana-manipulator *later on ill tell you why to buy it*)
    - you have to go jungling and carrie (as every jungler) a big red neon sign above your head called "Smite" cries out for "Bait me in Jungle"
    - needs a high skill of map awareness, cause you will be end up in a dead team, when taking golem buff or recalling whule 2 or 3 MIA (missing in action)

    explanation: for newbies "Bait" is this:

    its meant that someone puls you into a very dangerous situation mostly ends in your death :)
    for another example you follow a Sona through jungle and ran into a brush her 4 teammates waiting for you.
    So don't chase (follow) the enemy across the map.

  • General and "Styleguide"

    I want to tell you, you represent this guide, if you start playing or use the tactics and or built here and I want you to force some kind of Playstyle most of you can learn:
    Being Patient!

    Follow my 3 rulez and you will sure win many games that would be lost if you don't follow this:
    1. NEVER Rage! This is very important! Stay calm and quiet and don't recat on mad Teammates and/or Enemies! When you rage you will fail, because you will make mistakes you probably won't do.
    2. If a Player is raging you ignore it and write /ignore *insert Summoner Name* and stay calm so you can concentrate and see them fail cause they rage...
    3. NEVER write long sentences while alive! Don't know how much Tanks/Carries/Support i saw writing at mid and get ganked by enemie cause they didn't concentrate on lane, or can't hit spells cause of the open chat window.

    Iam getting weired, when I see some guys flaming and see in end they have 700wins + and really failed, bacause of their flaming and spamming -.-

    Short: Play friendly, say gg at end of EACH game, don't use CAPS if it's not an important thing yout mates don't react on pinging, e.G. "ASHE GET DOWN! 2 COME TROUGH JUNGLE", but keep it short and at next time you have time to write save say sorry for that.
    Write sry after KS an carrie or anyone else! Remember you don't want kills! If you acidentail get some or succesfull Towerdive an enmie through the walls as you will do late game very much and results you in avarage 8 kills. Do this only if you have no e.G. Tristana that can do so, too.

    Try to see the games as fun and not as work or anything else^^ Above I chosen a screen where I have 1 loose cause I wanna show you even lost games can have great results and can have fun to played :)

  • Essential

    Ok this can be skipped by long time players, if you know your role as TANK.

    ~~~.~~~ 10 rules to a successful Tank: ~~~.~~~
    1. You don't want kills!
    2. You prefer to die for one of your carries or in a Teamfight, where wether your mate(s) have a chance to escape or your teammates can get an ACE or "one left" by suciding yourself
    3. You go to every Teammate need your help, if
    --a) the fight will not result in a 2v5 or 3v5
    --b) you get a 3v3 in front of you, else you surely will get to the 3v3 instead of the 1v2
    4. You ward the Map, together with the jeungler and support, because the carries need their money more, except the jungler is no carrie himself
    5. You will clean a lane if you have the chance to do and no Teamfight will start as you do so. In 30-40min you MUST have 100 minion kills, thats avarage!
    6. Never stack HP with Amumu, you reach 3k with your core and thats enough!
    7. Your one of the fastes Jungler, so do camps and keep Blue and Red Buff always up.
    8. In a Teamfight always ataack every enemy, because your passive will lack their MRes, which grants you and your mates increased damage.
    9. follow their carries and try to keep the tank in your Aura, cause that does % damage and is badass for them!
    10. ALWAYS stay in front to catch enemy skill shots oder auto attacks and protect your allies!

    The best way to show you what i mean with granting your teammates kills is this video i found:




    ~~~.~~~ Map Aware! ~~~.~~~
    You are the Tank and need to have the greatest map awareness! If you loose it, your teammates will die!
    If someone don't call out an SS or MIA you have to do this! Every time a enemy vanishes you have to warn your teammates and prepare to help!
    Lern this to be more efficient on maps:




    ~~~.~~~ Ward! ~~~.~~~
    As I mentioned before it's your job to be a part of the Warding teammates!
    Learn this to know where to place your wards:

    And remember: Always ward the Rier at 4 Spots (Mid right side, Mid left side, Dragon 3 Ways, Nashor 3 way)
    As your the Jungler ward both Blue buffs if your not the only one warding ;)

  • Abilities

    Cursed Touch
    Boost your Spells, boost enem Spells, boost Damage.
    Just what you want to have as a Tank, stay near at enemies and reduce all MRes to open your Teammates a door to kill them more easily.


    Bandage Toss
    Oh Yeah. Pulls you to your target and stuns! IUse this to initiate with your ult, if your Flash isn't ready. Else save this for chasing your enemies and catch them up.

    Use this mainly in Teamfights to interrupt channeling spells like Nunus or Katarinas Ultimates.

    This grant you the maximal Stun duration at level 1 so you just need to put 1 point at level 4 on it and save the rest for very late game.


    Despair
    Your main "pain"-skill for enemy Tank. This does % damage and is great, when you can keep it up with your mana-manipulator all time.

    This spell allows you to easily Jungle at low level.


    Tantrum
    Your main damage output in fights, clearing lanes, pus lanes, jungling and anything else.

    You will love to take Waves without your minions, because you can spam this really quick.

    Max this first!


    Curse of the Sad Mummy
    Bread and Butter of Amumu. This makes you be feared in nearly every match. If the enemy doesn't stack CCReduction you will punish them for closing up.

    Use this as initiate in Teamfights or to safe your teammats life, if being chased, short before dead.

    Therefore you mainly need the Bluebuff thoughout the game.

    Absolute Priority!


  • Skilling Order

    As mentioned before skill R > E > W > Q!
    Easily said: Skill E every time you can do and cannot Skill your Ult. Skill your Q at last!

  • Summoner Spells, Runes, Masteries

    ~~~.~~~ Summoner Spells ~~~.~~~
    Smite No discussion, this is a "must-have" as Jungler!

    Flash This should be your main second summoner spell! It allows you to instantly Flash in enemy team and pop your ult suprisingly fast!

    -or-

    Ghost This will be used by most Amumus, but choose what you prefer. You can use your Q to get into enemy team for your ult as well!

    -other viable-

    Teleport Maybe useful, but sub-optimal as you see the other options.

    [spell=Fortify] This should be not your part, cause the support should take this, but if really needed take this in cost of fleeing potential!



    ~~~.~~~ Runes ~~~.~~~
    9x Greater Mark of Insight for Red ones

    9x Greater Seal of Evasion for Yellow ones
    many says don't take this cause it's lowering your Tantrum -.- yes but I am Tank and will take the risk to cast a tantrum only each 1-2 seconds and dodge attacks from enemies that would kill or hurt me much, than loose this advantage for one ability spamming Tantrum (E)!

    3x Greater Glyph of Focus and 6x Greater Glyph of Celerity
    - which leads you to 2,25CDR at level 1
    - and 7,35CDR at 18
    - with Blue Buff at level 18 becomes 32,35 and is nearly enough. For reaching the maximum Cap you build a Soul Shroud
    - with Bue buff at level 2 you have 2,55CDR plus the golem buff leads you to 27,55CDR at level 2!
    - you get the CDR runes, beacause you should not take any CDR masteries and more CDR items are lost money

    Yeah the Quints ^^ this is a interesting topic:
    First I'll say don't use Flat HP runes! they get really useless even in earlymid-game!
    I prefer to take Quints which don't loose their efectiveness during game and so i decided to get those:
    3x Greater Quintessence of Swiftness cause u didn't skilled the mastery and movement is important on Jungling as on ganking or get fast for taking Blue Buff. Trust me this will increase your Jungling, chasing, laning and pushing speed up and your "away time" on a lane refreshing the Blue Buff down.
    But if you think other Quints are better on Amumu tell it to me and I'll add them here :)


    ~~~.~~~ Masteries ~~~.~~~
    0-16-14
    I know its very rare seeing someone like this but, if you look deeper:
    You need the damage reduction for jungling, cleaning, pushing, in teamfights until the end, the absorbed damage by the masteries stacks up into hundreds the flat life is lost, because that ~50 life won't count in mid game and nothing in late! (same as I never use flat health runes)

    I didn't skilled imprved Smite, because it will loose effectivity at mid-late game and hese 5gold and 5secs don't match up the other options, as dodge, Flash CDR or decreased damage.

  • Jungling with Amumu

    My video-explanation on how to Jungle effective and SAVE with Amumu^^ Remember:
    A dead Jungler can't Jungle ;)



    Here is the typical Part for Amumu I found on Youtube.
    You maybe shoud turn sound off, because his voice is penetrating your brain and he says bullshit some times.
    Beside: He's kinda slow! Even without improved Smite you could get Lizard down at same time but thats no good tactic(keep in mind my video was engaged at golem 30seconds later).
    It's not good because of the gank i warned you and if that ganker would be another jungler with smite and you attack lizard before 4sec CD off Smite he can probably steal it!
    Else your opponents see it a little bit later and will catch you up a little bit later (right when you engaged at lizard most times), so I wait mostly a extra 1or2 seconds^^

    The thing they do at start is called leashing or "leash" and should be in every good game at start, because you have many advantages with that:
    1. Enemies who come for jungling steal may think you already finished it
    2. If you are focused before start you have a second teammate there to catch them up + the two on the lane up makes 4 people who can defend your jungle before 1:30min.
    3. You can see later ganks coming
    4. No one losses exp, if that Ashe have done that through the wall, so optimal she would stand there to return to her lane before minion clashes:

    You should place you Teammates like in the picture down to optimize your map awareness before doing ancient golem

    Your position:

    You can react on both sides as that position. Beside if one of your Teammates leaves the position or don't know that it's essential you already have a good range of sight.

    Upper Teammate 1 position:

    Stand there for the 3-way sight on upper lane ganks.

    Upper Teammate 2 position:

    Looks for the enemy upper lane champions (could stand a bit more up and Bait the enemis up to you so you can maybe kill them 3v2 (don't work on higher ELO) ;)

    Mid Teammate position:

    This is the key position! Most pre-game ganks will come from the mid across baron.

  • Build him up

    As you go jungle, so you have to take a Cloth Armor and either
    - 5x Health Potion
    or
    - 3x Health Potion and 1x Sight Ward
    last is mainly used, if your teammates don't defend you at jungle start

    As your first recall i prefer to buy 1x Boots of Speed and 3x Health Potion for increased ganking potential after reaching level 4 and more survivability with that Health Potions.
    But remeber to save 1x Health Potion for refreshing your Blue Buff!

    The next target for you is to finish your Mercury's Treads, because you are tank ans it's essential for you! Even if the enemy team is all melee target the Mercury's Treads, because you don't get them because of the MRes! Many guides will tell you to take a Ninja Tabi then, but thats no option for you, because you need to stay mobile and don't wanna have any CC on you for maximal duration!

    No option either is the Sunfire Cape after that! Start with the Giant's Belt first, to stay a linger time in combats. After this your further Items depends on the enemy team, as the equip for every tank does.

    So your Core build is:

    What you build after this is up to you, your Teammates and your enemies, but I prefer to build a Soul Shroud out of the Cloth Armor, to reach the CDR-Cap and gain some Survivability as bonus. After that you should really build a MRes item, when facing an balanced team, because you already have Sunfire Cape as an Armor item.

  • Item Discussion

    Items that should be in your Balanced build
    ~~~.~~~
    Soul Shroud is very good on amumu! as mentioned before it gives you bonus Health and boost your CDR to maximum. It also supports your team, what is always good for a tank and the main reason, why you get this over other CDR items!
    ~~~.~~~
    Banshee's Veil is your main MRes item, gives you some bonus health and a badass shield, that may block a deadly CC. All round talent item.
    ~~~.~~~
    Aegis of the Legion is a great Item over all and should always be in your build, even if you only build it late-game! It boost your survivability, your teammates survivability and gives you some bonus health.
    ~~~.~~~
    Guardian Angel boosts your AD and AP defense and have a nice passive, which grants you to be more scary to the other team.

    This would be a good Blanced build for 13,335 gold:

    Items that are useful against an heavy AD team

    Frozen Heart gives you more mana to act, the missing CDR and is build from your Cloth Armor, so you don't need to build Soul Shroud anymore. Aside it gives you a fucking boost of 99 Armor which will pain the enemies!
    ~~~.~~~
    Thornmail If the enemy Team is maining AD this is never wrong, but I don't prefer it as "Must-have" item, if there is no YI or WW in enemy team.

    Randuin's Omen this replaces your Soul Shroud for the missing life, have a great active and give you 80 armor. Additional health regen is never bad!

    This would be good AD build for 14,335 gold:

    Items that are useful against heavy AP team
    ~~~.~~~
    Spirit Visage should be your firs item against a heavy AP team, because it is cheap and synergise well with you further item. It also rplaces your Soul Shroud in Health and CDR gain. Adds a viable amount of MRes, too!

    Force of Nature is badass, when you follow my tipp and got a Spirit visage first. Heavy MRes and Heath Regeneration.



    This would be good AP build for 12,495 gold:

    Optional Items
    Abyssal Scepter Yeah this works well on Amumu in several situations:
    1. You are an arranged Team which should have at least one Supprt who should always carry an Aegis.
    2. Your Team domminate the Battlefield and don't need anymore survivability in Teamfights and only, when 3/5 (including you) are AP users
    The Contra i see is the HP loose you will have with this instead of Aegis, since your not prefer life stacking items (like Warmogs), you need a moderate amount with most new items which gives you pieces of life and this isn't included in Abyssal.

  • Working in a Team

    You are the Tank. Play as such. If you don't know how you will be optimal in your team you should return to the "Essential"-section of this guide!
    ~~~.~~~
    Your job is to pull the aggro of the enemies, so your Teammates can do damage on them, easily right? -No it's not.
    The worst case is that you got your great combo:
    1. Your allies wait in the side brush at mid
    2. You pull yourself to the upcoming wave
    3. You instanly flash over it
    4. You pop your ult and surprised all 5 enemies so bad they even can't cry
    5. you surprised your own team, too and die after your stun expires

    Don't do this. Announce your initiating! Best will be that you are in Skype but as not just say at Mid-Game starts, that you will ping an enemy and will initiate afert a chosen amount of time or the second time you will ping in a chosen amount of time. Mostly this will be about 3secs. You can surprise the enemies with this, get your team in position and ready, and finally save about 0.5 seconds damage you would lost when not announing you flash and initiate!

    Stay always in front of your Teammates!
    Catch skillshots and harass the enemy Tank so you have the chance to intiate with your Combo!

    Wait for your Ultimate to intiate, you are Amumu and can stand a longer time in the pre-battle phase then most other Tanks or Soaks. Use this for your advantage to skip the time for your ult ready (should not be more than 25seconds).
